    • As a BUCKEYE fan who is recovering from cancer myself, God Bless You Bax and your family. You speak with the tounge of a much wiser older gentleman. Must have gotten that from your Dad.

    • Bax: Having had cancer twice and having it continually hang over my head like the Sword of Damocles (it was doing the Great Escape into my nervous system when they last caught it), and having survived an aircraft crash where some of my crewmates did not and countless other brushes with the great crossing over, I can attest to the wonderful distraction that is Buckeye football. Frankly, and I've told the staff this before, Bucknuts was what kept my attention in the days after my last pretty dire diagnosis and the days lying down in recovery after the surgery.
But then Ohio State was playing Michigan State on the TV during my younger daughter's birth and yesterday she was sworn into Air Force ROTC at the Great Buckeye University and starting classes this coming week. It is a tie that binds.
There are no fresh words to replace those voices of those departed, only those in our memories. Our last days with those we love are like gold and reasons to cherish. But as long as we live and remember, all who have touched our lives live still inside us. Their words become our conscience, and our conscience is our legacy to our children. And that is the honor and beauty we have as members of the human race.

      Good Piece Matt!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family in the hope he lasts a little while longer, that the time spent is quality, and the memories cherished!

My dad was given a year, and its been 18 months, and its the brain also. So sad for a long time professor who used his brain more than his braun.

With the Bucks and Jackets (we hope) up soon, time in C-bus should be good (or at least better) with all you have going on right now.

Dont forget the extra tickets to the CBJ now that you are coming home!

    • I've said it before and I'll say it again, the love for OSU isn't just something I picked up its something that is engrained in me from my family. It's about the family, no matter how big or small that family is. It's about game days with pops and grandma sipping a beer and watching the games, enjoying the fact we all have so much love for the same thing. That to me, is Ohio State football.

    • Thank you for sharing with us Bax...Buckeye nation is here for you. Peace

    • Bax... You and your father are in my prayers.

I lost my dad from cancer. He was a diehard Ohio State fan. He started taking me to games when I was 6 years old when Woody was coaching. He always told me the only place I would go to school was Ohio State.

One of my last memories of him was taking him to a Michigan Game when he was going through some fairly tough treatments. My mom was very concerned about him, since it was not the best weather and he was fairly weak. But when I asked him if he would like to go, a big smile lit up his face — something I had not seen for months.

So, I got tickets in B-deck. As he was slowly climbing the steps in the old stadium, he turned to me and simply said — This is great. It was a simple but special moment. We won the game that day...

And during his funeral 6 months later, my mom remembered that as one of the last times that she saw his love for life that she had become so accustomed to during their 40 years together.

It is amazing how the people and the things that we are most passionate about intertwine and form the foundation for great memories. To this day, I know that part of my passion for Ohio State Football is grounded in my memories of my father taking me to games when I had no idea what was going on... And ending with the last time we watched our beloved Buckeyes beat TSUN in Ohio Stadium.

As you go through this tough time, always remember the good times and the relationship you have with your father. Those memories will be with you the rest of your life.

    • Lost my dad to brain cancer two years ago. He was diagnosed in January and passed away in May. My heart goes out to you. My thought and prayers are with you and your family. One of the things my dad and I loved, besides golfing together, was our Buckeyes. Great article and again God Bless you and your family.
