Buckeye Recruiting Week In Review

We started our coverage this past week on Sunday with a report on how things went for the biggest name to make an official visit to Ohio State last weekend, 5-star safety Vonn Bell.

Vonn Bell was the biggest name making an official visit to Ohio State last weekend.

A new name arrived on the Buckeyes recruiting board last Sunday as Ohio State assistant Tim Hinton called wide receiver James Clark and Clark seemed to have an interest in making an official visit to OSU.

Last Sunday the Buckeyes landed a huge commitment as 2014 cornerback Damon Webb attended the Ohio State junior day and committed to Urban Meyer before heading home to Michigan.

So what was the impact of Webb’s decision? I looked at that question in a column detailing just how big a “get” Webb is for Meyer as he takes away a Michigan prospect Brady Hoke badly wanted.

JUCO wide receiver Corey Smith’s official visit to Ohio State last weekend went very well though he did not become a Buckeye commitment before leaving Columbus.

This past week the Buckeyes offered a scholarship to wide receiver James Clark.

4-Star Ohio State linebacker target Kyle Berger attended the Ohio State junior day last Sunday and went home saying the Buckeyes are clearly at the top of his list.

On Monday morning I posted the latest edition of What I Am Hearing. In this edition I had information on slot receiver Dontre Wilson still considering an official visit to Ohio State, Meyer making a trip to Michigan and going after more Hoke targets, the Buckeyes going after some Brian Kelly Notre Dame commitments and more.

4-Star wide receiver Shelton Gibson made an official visit to Ohio State last weekend. I detailed how things went for Gibson on Monday?

Bucknuts broke the news on Monday night that the Buckeyes had offered another 2013 wide receiver. This offer went out to Clark and Clark told me on Monday night he was interested in visiting Ohio State.

Star sophomore running back Michael Weber says Ohio State is at the top of his list.

Late Monday night broke huge news – Meyer had stopped at Grand Rapids (Mich.) Christian earlier that day to check on Michigan State wide receiver commitment Drake Harris. Harris told me he indeed has an interest in Ohio State and would visit OSU.

On Tuesday morning Clark told me he had decided to make an official visit to Clemson this weekend rather than Ohio State, but he might still make an official visit to OSU and make an unofficial visit to Florida rather than an official visit there.

This past week the Buckeyes offered another 2013 wide receiver, Kyrin Priester, a North Carolina State commitment from Georgia. Priester plans to make an official visit to Ohio State.

The No. 1 sophomore running back in the state of Michigan tells me Ohio State is the top school on his list. Meyer stopped at his school on Monday.

On Wednesday we “chatted” Ohio State football recruiting on the Front Row Message Board for nearly three hours with many, many great questions.

When word broke that Chip Kelly was leaving Oregon to take over as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Ohio State staff quickly sprung into action, contacting Duck commitments.

As many as four Oregon commitments could make official visits to Ohio State, Tyrell and Tyree Robinson as well as Darren Carrington and Dontre Wilson.

On Wednesday night I posted the transcripts from my Ohio State football recruiting “chat.”

After making his official visit to Ohio State last weekend, slot receiver Corn Elder said Ohio State and UCLA are the top two schools on his list.

2014 tight end Jeb Blazevich narrowed his list to six schools a little while back and Ohio State is one of the six. Steve Helwagen caught up with Blazevich in Florida.

2014 running back/wide receiver Parris Campbell Jr. attended the Ohio State junior day last weekend and came with an offer from the Buckeyes.

Having landed a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes, 2014 safety Erick Smith joins two junior teammates at Glenville with OSU offers, offensive lineman Marcelys Jones who has committed and cornerback/wide receiver Marshon Lattimore.

Wilson, who scheduled an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Jan. 25, welcomed in OSU Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman for a visit on Thursday.

Offensive lineman Dan Skipper left for an official visit to Arkansas on Thursday and will leave from there today for an official visit with the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes are currently the leader for one of the top 2014 athletes in the South, Myles Autry.

On Friday Urban Meyer was in Tennessee to stop and check on 5-star running back Jalen Hurd who is definitely interested in Ohio State.
