Buckeye Recruiting Week In Review

The week started on Friday as I posted a thread on the games last weekend involving the Buckeyes’ verbal commitments. Among the top performers were Tracy Sprinkle and Taivon Jacobs.

What is going on with future Buckeye defensive tackle Michael Hill?

On Sunday my feature last week was the latest edition of my 2013 Ohio State Hot List. There were definitely some changes since the previous time I ran my list, but the player at the top stayed the same.

On Monday morning I posted the latest edition of What I Am Hearing. In this edition I had information on future Buckeye defensive tackle Michael Hill and how he could be turning into an even bigger and better prospect than first thought, news on another Buckeye defensive commitment Tyquan Lewis, which future Buckeyes will arrive early at Ohio State and much more.

Bucknuts broke the news that Buckeye quarterback commitment JT Barrett had injured his knee and the first diagnosis was that he had torn his ACL and MCL with meniscus damage. However, Barrett wanted to get a second opinion. The result was a little better, but Barrett will still have surgery and his high school career is over. But Barrett is looking forward to his career at Ohio State with a very positive outlook. had the news this past week that USC wide receiver commitment Sebastian LaRue has scheduled an official visit to Ohio State.

Former Akron Buchtel star and current East Mississippi Junior College wide receiver Corey Smith told that he has been offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes.

The country’s No. 3 inside linebacker prospect, Trey Johnson, has scheduled an official visit to Ohio State even though he is committed to Auburn.

Urban Meyer is battling Michigan coach Brady Hoke in Florida for some key 2014 targets including offensive lineman Kc McDermott. McDermott’s mom is from Zanesville, Ohio and she has family that still lives there. McDermott visited Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame this summer and is highly considering those schools and has scholarship offers from all of them.

Staying on the theme of the Buckeyes’ aggressive 2014 recruiting, one of their next scholarship offers could go out to running back Nick Chubb. The Cedartown, Ga., star has close to 2,000 yards rushing through the first seven games of his junior season. The Buckeyes have told him based on his film he is an Ohio State offer type prospect and Chubb is definitely interested.

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2013 offensive tackle David Dawson, who at one time had committed to Michigan, says Ohio State is one of four schools he is now highly considering. Dawson decided he is going to make an official visit to Florida this weekend so he and the Wolverines parted ways. Dawson now says Ohio State, Florida, LSU and Alabama are the four schools he is focused on and he is talking about making an official visit to Ohio State the weekend the Buckeyes play Michigan.

It was another very busy week for Buckeye recruiting and another very busy week here at We continue our wall-to-wall Buckeye recruiting coverage tomorrow with my Sunday feature. This week Steve Helwagen and I combine for our Top 10 Buckeye Targets combining football and basketball recruiting into one Buckeye recruiting target feature.
