**Coffeyville Call? … Urban Meyer and his staff are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to fill up the Buckeyes’ 2013 recruiting class.
The OSU staff will check out Spaight in person alongside a couple of their linebacker targets.
Their search includes the country’s junior colleges and one such prospect they are interested in is linebacker Martrell Spaight (Coffeyville, Kan./Community College). In fact Spaight left on Thanksgiving night – driving to Columbus with his parents for an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.
The 6-foot-1 and 220-pound Spaight does not have a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes at this point, and does not know if he will receive one this weekend. He is being recruited by Luke Fickell and Mark Pantoni who have told him they want to get him on campus, but haven’t indicated how close he might be to an Ohio State offer. Spaight has offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Rutgers, Memphis, South Florida, Kansas State and Arkansas State.
There is no doubt Mike Mitchell, Trey Johnson, Daniel McMillian and Skai Moore are higher on the Buckeyes’ linebacker recruiting board than Spaight, with Johnson and McMillian also scheduled to be in Columbus this weekend on official visits. An offer to Spaight this weekend seems unlikely, but the OSU staff can see him in-person alongside a couple of their linebacker targets.
So if it all came together, Spaight would be going from Coffeyville to Columbus. That’s an interesting twist …
**Dayton Bred … There’s a lot of things Gem City natives are proud of. One of them is not the fact Michigan head coach Brady Hoke calls the area his hometown.
