**Campaigning For McGovern? … You knew it was going to happen. As soon as word circulated that Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly had talked to the Philadelphia Eagles about becoming their head coach, the Ohio State staff would be taking a look at “flipping” some of Kelly’s commitments that at one time had an interest in OSU.
Chance for a late run?
And sure enough, on Thursday Buckeye assistant Mike Vrabel called the father of offensive lineman Colin McGovern (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West). The Buckeyes had offered McGovern early before he picked the Irish.
So what reply did Vrabel receive?
Unfortunately Kelly leaving Notre Dame probably would not be enough to get McGovern to change his mind.
The 6-foot-7 and 280-pound McGovern said on Thursday night that he committed to Notre Dame first and foremost for the school rather than the coach, and for McGovern to consider anywhere else he said there would have to be something that “turned me off – something more than a coaching change.”
If Kelly leaves Notre Dame, Vrabel might make one more run at McGovern. But it is not likely he is going to “flip.”
**The Anzalone Chronicles … We checked in with an Ohio high school football coach – the same one we quoted in the House yesterday – who had some interesting takes on former OSU and Notre Dame recruit Alex Anzalone making a last-minute change and enrolling at Florida.
