Boarding House: Friday Edition

**Withers Unplugged … We had a chance to ask Ohio State co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Everett Withers this week how the defensive coaches are coming together and how the Buckeyes’ scheme is evolving. The former North Carolina interim head coach offered an interesting and detailed response. Fans who are looking for the “Silver Bullets” to be more of an attack-mode defense will certainly like his answer.

Deshaun Watson

Clemson's for sure, right? Right?

“I think it’s going well,” Withers said. “Obviously, we’re doing what these kids have kind of done throughout their career; we’re doing mostly that. I think we’d like to be a little more aggressive and press and blitz a little bit more. You know, dictate to the offense a little bit more. But, like I’ve said before, when they’re spreading you out sideline-to-sideline, it’s hard to disguise a blitz. So, we’ve got to be aggressive, but still be careful in what we do.

“I want to win games, first of all. I want to do what wins games. We’re 4-0 doing what we’ve done. I had a question last week about how many yards we gave up. Well, like I said, I care about points. I really do, I care about how many points. At the end of the day, it’s how many points did they score?

“So, we’re going to do what our personnel allows us to do. And we have to be smart enough as coaches to not push something that isn’t there. I do feel we have a couple skilled corners and safeties that can cover. So, if it allows us to do a little bit more man-to-man, then hopefully we can do a little bit more man-to-man.”

**Greener Pastures For Fields? …Chris Fields loves being a Buckeye. What he doesn’t enjoy is not playing.

*So what happens next?

*Is Watson to Clemson elementary?

*What did we learn from the blocked extra point attempt?
