**Called On … Sometimes it is the Ohio State assistant coach that extends a scholarship offer to the prospect the Buckeyes are recruiting. And then at other times it is the head man, Urban Meyer, that extends the offer. In the case of Derek Kief last week, it was Meyer who offered the 6-foot-5 and 190-pound wide receiver. Kief called Meyer on Thursday night and Meyer personally extended the offer. As Kief told Bucknuts afterwards: “You know it’s serious when it’s Coach Meyer.”

And interestingly, Kief was familiar with the committable vs. non-committable offer, and said the offer from Meyer was committable. So now the watch is on as to when Kief might say yes to Meyer.

Kief, by the way, told some friends about the offer before he told his family. He wanted to surprise his family and tell them in-person. “They were surprised and really excited,” Kief said.

**Kerry On …One of the things that got somewhat lost in the shuffle recently was Ohio State cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs getting a promotion to special teams coordinator. Coombs will still be corners coach, but has an additional title now.
