**Landing Armstrong?... The Buckeyes would love to land 2014 defensive end Malik McDowell (along with just about everyone else). McDowell is the No. 1 junior in the state of Michigan and has offers from schools all over the country.
The other junior at Detroit (Mich.) Loyola drawing pretty big interest is offensive and defensive tackle Ka’John Armstrong. While the 6-foot-5 and 275-pound Armstrong doesn’t have any offers yet, he is drawing interest from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Nebraska and others. But if any coaches are showing interest in Armstrong to help their case with McDowell, it probably won’t work.
While Armstrong and McDowell are friends, they don’t really talk about going to the same school. Certainly it could happen, but if it does it will likely happen without a lot if any planning between the two. By the way, Ohio State assistant Kerry Coombs has stopped at Loyola since the Buckeyes victory over Michigan to check on McDowell and Armstrong, and Armstrong followed up with a call to Coombs. Coombs told Armstrong he wants him to stay in touch on a regular basis.
**Staying Sharp … Ohio State’s student-athletes are now on winter break, but the good news is that we’ve been told by multiple sources that players haven’t been sitting around relaxing since the win over Michigan.
