Boarding House: Wednesday Edition

**Basket Expanding? … There is not much doubt that the Buckeyes’ No. 1 Class of 2014 quarterback target is DeShaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville), who has committed to Clemson. A fierce battle is brewing as the Tigers try to fend off the Bucks’ efforts to “flip” Watson.

Drew Barker

The next Alex Smith?

But Urban Meyer and Tom Herman are not putting all of their eggs in one basket. The coaches are engaged in discussions with at least a half-dozen other junior signal caller. One of those is Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner) and Herman is stopping at Barker’s school today.

So what would the Buckeyes be getting if they ended up with Barker rather than Watson? While Watson is a dual-threat quarterback somewhat out of the Braxton Miller mold, Barker is a bit different. But Meyer has made sure Barker knows he too could be a good fit for his Ohio State offense. In fact Meyer has told Barker he could be an “Alex Smith” type quarterback in his OSU version of the spread offense.

Smith, of course, led Utah to an undefeated season when Meyer was the top dog for the Utes. Buckeye Nation would be just fine with Barker if he were to lead Ohio State to an undefeated season. And Barker would likely be OK with how college ended for Smith – as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.

**Great Scott? … One of the best running backs in the country was on hand for The Game this past weekend but nobody is really talking about it. Nobody, that is, except the Ohio State staff.

*And who is that?

*SEC bias?

*Fickell talks hot seat?

*Another Buckeye considering the leap?
