**Urban Defender … You know about Urban Meyer the offensive mastermind. You know about Meyer the special teams guru. And you know Meyer isn’t all that involved defensively … or at least you thought you knew that.

Meyer keeps a closer eye on the defense than one might think.
As it turns out, Meyer is “very-engrained in what the defense is doing,” according to a well-placed team source.
“They came out passive on defense against Miami and it was Meyer who told [Luke] Fickell that it was time to start sending more guys after the quarterback,” the source said. “So, Meyer’s not sitting in on defensive meetings instead of going to offensive meetings, but during the game, he tells the defensive coaches when he wants adjustments made. They can make them on their own, but Meyer is extremely involved in all facets of the game during the game itself.”
We also hear Meyer prefers to have his coordinators in the press box, but is allowing Fickell to be on the field because that’s how Fickell likes to coach (and has always coached). Everett Withers is the defensive man is the press box, which makes him Meyer’s de-facto eye-in-the-sky. Meyer also hand-picked Withers to join the staff at Ohio State.
Fickell often says it’s a "group effort" defensively in terms of coaching … and as it turns out he’s exactly right.
**Staying In Touch? … The word has been going around that linebacker Alex Anzalone spoke with Urban Meyer over the weekend. And that is true. So what did they talk about?
*We asked Anzalone ...?
*Ball out?
*Bryant-Doss development?
*Changing of the guard?
