Buckeye Recruiting Week In Review

The week began with my Sunday feature which this week was a preview of the Ohio State football camp sessions this month. The first camp was the first of two Senior Advanced Camps which was held last Sunday.

Murray became OSU commitment No. 9

On Sunday afternoon after getting back from the Ohio State Senior Advanced Camp I posted a story highlighting the top prospects I saw at camp including defensive backs Najee Murray (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville), James Sanford (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) and Jeremy Clark (Madisonville, Ky./North Hopkins). All three drew plenty of attention from the Ohio State staff and Murray was offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes. broke the news on Sunday evening that Murray had committed to Ohio State. Murray called the Buckeyes after arriving home from camp, was offered a scholarship and quickly accepted. He became commitment No. 9 for the Bucks.

On Monday morning I posted the latest edition of What I Am Hearing. This edition included many things I heard at Ohio State’s Senior Advanced Camp last Sunday. There was certainly talk about Jim Tressel at the camp, and I had a number of items on what I heard about the former Buckeye boss.

The Buckeyes offered a scholarship to offensive lineman Kyle Dodson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) last Sunday. Dodson was excited about the offer and said it moved Ohio State into his top four. However, in what was a shocking decision to many, on Monday night Dodson announced he had committed to Wisconsin over scholarship offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and many others.

Sanford was impressive at OSU's camp

On Tuesday morning I posted a story on James Sanford and Jeremy Clark, two defensive backs who looked good at the Ohio State Senior Advanced Camp. The OSU staff told both they are interested.

Also on Tuesday I posted a story with the news that wide receiver Jaquay Williams would be announcing his college choice on Wednesday, June 15 at 4:00 pm. Williams said his final five were Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Florida.

Offensive lineman Adam Pankey (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) worked out at the Buckeyes’ Senior Advanced Camp on Sunday. He did not walk away with a scholarship offer, but the OSU coaches let him know they are interested. Next up for Pankey is a trip to Wisconsin’s camp on June 20.

Wide receiver Jaquay Williams announced his college choice on Wednesday afternoon, and as expected announced he had committed to Auburn over scholarship offers from Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and Florida.

Wiggins landed an offer from OSU this week

On Thursday morning I posted a story on the top kicker in the state of Ohio, Ross Martin (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit). Martin was set to workout at the Buckeyes’ Kicking and Long Snapping Camp on Thursday before heading to Duke’s camp later that day.

Three kickers squared off at the Ohio State Kicking and Long Snapping Camp. Martin, Tyler Grassman (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) and rising junior Nick Smith (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) were all impressive at the competition and afterwards the OSU coaching staff spoke with Martin and Grassman.

On Friday I posted a story on the Buckeyes offering a scholarship to another rising junior, this one going out to defensive back Shaquille Wiggins (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek). Wiggins impressed the Ohio State staff at the Buckeyes’ Senior Advanced Camp last Sunday.

It was indeed a very, very busy week for Buckeye recruiting and another very busy week here at That is not going to change, especially since the Ohio State camp sessions continue through June 25 when the activities wrap-up with the second Senior Advanced Camp.
