FRR Roundtable: Who's In Your Five?

Ohio State Buckeyes

Staff members rank the top five players on Ohio State's team in order. Is Terrelle Pryor the best player on the team? What about John Simon? Could Mike Brewster be the best?

    • Based on being a College player and based on potential.
      1. Brewster
      2.Pryor
      3.Adams/Simon
      4.Sabino
      5.Braxton Miller/Rod Smith high ceiling!

    • First of all, great shows all week. I found it odd that guys of your knowledge would not even give honorable mention to Boom Herron.1155 yards, 5.3 YPC, and 16 TDs while splitting carries for nearly half the season. 16 TDs is a big number. Throw in no fumbles, good receiver, and excellent blocker and just yesterday a thread said he is the strongest player on the team pound for pound.he is my #5 pick. Mike Adams is my # 4. Could have been a little higher if not for off field issues but has really come on to be an outstanding tackle. My # 3 is Mike Brewster, rock solid on the field and off and a tremendous leader. At # 2 I have John Simon, ready for a huge season from him. #1 for me is Terrelle Pryor. He doesn't always look pretty throwing the ball but his #s are good, Last season 2772 yards passing, 27TDs vs 11 picks with a 65% completion rate, 754 yards on the ground and 4 rushing TDs. I have to think of guys like Jack Tatum, Alonzo Spellman and Eddie George to to even compare the freakish athletic ability he posseses. Posey didn't make my list because of the hands issue, Moeller because of durability issues and Howard, I want to see what he does now that he is The Man back there. Big Hank and Rod Smith have plenty of time to prove themselves.

Thanks for the response and the insightful post. Yeah, you make a good point about Boom. We're going to have a note in today's Boarding House on Herron that you will enjoy. I'm a big Boom fan, I just don't consider him one of the top-five players on the team. But he's certainly knocking loudly at the door. What a great season he had last year. And we have to remember he didn't get a chance to pad his stats in the non-conference portion of the schedule. He didn't take over as the "bell-cow" until the fifth game of the season (at Illinois). Before that, he was kind of splitting reps with Saine. Finally the staff determined that Boom was far better than Saine and made the right move.

    • Duane..Hankins is a great selection to the list however I see one caveat about Big Hank..He needs to be in better shape during the season (or at least better shape than his freshman yr)..Hankins could add intriguing flexibility to the DL especially for Williams and Simon. Big Hank could become a Big Daddy type impact on the DL

    • 1. Terrelle Pryor (Hands down the best player at the most important position and it's not even close)
      2. John Simon (Dominant and can play any DL position)
      3. Boom Heron (a list without this guy is just not complete)
      4. Mike Adams (If he wasn't missing first 5 games he'd be a first rounder for sure)
      5. Mike Brewster (A rock and a first round center IMO)
      peace

      agreed
No doubt. Posey drops too many balls. If he didn't he'd be a first rounder.

It is massively important that he improve his conditioning so he can be an every down player.

Based on his spring performance he could be. He has to play off of that. He is a better physical specimen. A.J. Green was a better player throughout his college career but some put Julio Jones ahead of Green despite some concerns about dropping balls and not having his head in the game at times because he had a great senior year and is the superior physical specimen. Anyway, I see a number one receiver in Posey when he is at his best. A good to receiver. I liked Blackmon but did not have him as high on my board as some did last year when it looked like he might go pro.

    • 2010 stats: Blackmon 111 catches, 1782 yds., 20 TDs; Posey 53catches, 848 yards, 7 TDs. Pretty telling numbers

Oklahoma States QB Brandon Weeden threw the ball 511 times to Pryors 323. If you go by numbers Greg Salas was twice the player Julio Jones was as he had right about twice as many catches but he went in the fourth round. Numbers just don't matter. Blackmon is more a Hines Ward type player for me. He is not a big #1 receiver. Posey can be. Michael Floyd is the best receiver in the draft next year if it was just about on the field talent.

    • Good show, before I start.......but my biggest thing is on average of leaving Mike Adams off of the list for T. Moeller who had yet to even play a whole starting or significant season ??? Wow....I know its the best five players...but seriously ?

2 much to like and love.....but I will try...

      5. J. Simon ( beast )

      4. J. Berry ( why he cant get his respect do is crazy ?)

      3. M. Brewster ( Experience, etc, etc...)

      2. M. Adams ( MIKE nuff said )

      1. T. Pryor ( no regrets...wins, excitement, stiff arm )

      Honorable : T. Howard, A. Bellamy, N. Williams, Boom Herron, A. Norwell
