Urban Meyer has been looking across the country for play-makers at wide receiver and today he has added another candidate as Corey Smith has committed to Ohio State.
Smith is the country’s No. 9 JUCO prospect, the No. 3 wide receiver and the No. 2 prospect in Mississippi.
Smith committed to Mississippi State at the end of his official visit there the weekend of Dec. 7. But he decided to make an official visit to Ohio State earlier this month and has “flipped” to the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes visited Smith at East Mississippi Junior College.
"They were down there to see him today," Smith's mother Ericka said. "I think it was the wide receivers coach (Zach Smith)."
The 6-foot-0 and 170-pound Smith is originally from Akron Buchtel. After graduating from Buchtel, Smith played one season at Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan.
Smith then headed for East Mississippi Junior College and he and his team were outstanding this season. Smith had 40 plus catches and 10 touchdowns. Smith will have three years to play two seasons at Ohio State.
Corey Smith becomes commitment No. 23 for Meyer’s 2013 recruiting class.
Smith, who has been recruited by Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith, was a part of a big recruiting weekend Jan. 11 that saw Meyer welcome in nine seniors on official visits and a number of top 2014 prospects for a junior day today.
Corey Smith is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings. He is the country’s No. 9 JUCO prospect, the No. 3 wide receiver and the No. 2 prospect in Mississippi.
