Meyer Hooks Big One – Mike Mitchell

Announcement time came for 4-star linebacker and Ohio State Buckeye target Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy) and the news was great for the Buckeyes. During the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Mitchell announced he has committed to Ohio State over scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida State and Oregon, his finalists, as well as many others.

Mitchell is the country’s No. 100 prospect, the No. 8 outside linebacker and the No. 12 prospect in the state of Texas in the 247Sports rankings.

Mitchell had three hats to pick from as he announced his decision on national television, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Oregon. He picked up the OSU hat, making Buckeye Nation very happy.

Mitchell was part of the huge Dec. 7 recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes. It was the only official visit Mitchell made though he had made a number of unofficial visits including Texas A&M and Oklahoma. The Aggies ended up being the Buckeyes’ main competition.

Mitchell has developed a very good relationship with Meyer as well as Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman who recruited Mitchell.

The 6-foot-4 and 222-pound Mitchell led the state of Texas with 151 tackles during his junior season when he played defensive end for Plano West. He transferred to Prestonwood Christian Academy for his senior season and played linebacker, again making over 100 tackles.

Mitchell could play middle or outside linebacker for the Buckeyes, but will likely at least begin his Ohio State career in the middle.

Mitchell is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings. He is the country’s No. 100 prospect, the No. 8 outside linebacker and the No. 12 prospect in the state of Texas.
