    • Said this in another thread, and I'll say it in this one, too. The thing to me that was most impressive is the amount of coaches on this staff who seem to have a bright future in terms of being a head coach one day. Loved listening to Whithers. He just seems very down to earth and humble. Sharp guy too. Could definitely see him running a program. I firmly belive Fickell will one day run a program. Herman seems like an up and comer, a la Dan Mullen. Under Meyer's tutelage he will be just fine. The most impressive interview of the day, however, was Warriner (other than Meyer of course). Warriner is very sharp, articulate, and poised. Not even sure if he wants to be a head coach one day, but man, I could definitely see him at the helms of a top tier program. Kudos to Meyer for putting together this staff. Have a feeling it's going to be a great one.

      • Can only think of the Bart Scott quote from almost a year ago around this time, "Can't Wait"!

        • I believe Wariner's comment was "...we will not be a finesse running team...". Meyer kept mentioning Zach Boren. I think we are going to play ball. If you stop us one way, we'll come at you another way, but may be not they way you thought. Tom Herman is one smart dude. I think I remember hearing Mensa membership some place in reference to him.

          This should be fun!

Dave, how long do you see this staff staying intact? With the bowl ban this year I can't see anyone leaving afterwards, so at least two years.

That's a great question. One of the interesting aspects about Jim Tressel's tenure is that the staff remained relatively intact. You can nearly count on one hand how many coaches Tressel lost off his core staff during his ten year career (Dantonio, Spencer, Snyder, Tucker, Beckman, Hazell), and he never lost two guys from the same side of the ball in one year. That was a huge part of Ohio State's success during that time (insert Bollman joke here).

I think if we were able to keep this same group together over the next three seasons, that would really be impressive. Fickell will be a head one day. Tom Herman will be a head coach one day. Taver Johnson should get his opportunity as a DC for a major program in the near future. Three years would be impressive.

                    • Well it sounds like Boren is making it impossible to leave the field and it just might showUrban that having a smash mouth fullback is not a bad thing.

I wonder if Boren gets some carries in this offense,he is huge and could offer some tebowish runs up the middle.

Did homan redshirt?would be nice if we had one of them back for 2013.

I was always under the impression that UFM really wanted a power running game with a big back but could never seem to land one. It will be interesting to see what he does with the ones we have on the team now.

Boren is one of my favorite players, and I am sure they will make use of his excellent hands. With any down field blocking, he is going to be a beast and rip secondaries apart. I am also looking for the evolution of our wide outs, and the return of Stoneburner. I am also hoping Braxton's fundamentals increase exponentially.

I made a comment to a kid in Buckeye gear recently and he did not take it well.

He better enjoy it because I only see a lot of wins for the Buckeyes in the near future. Boooyaaaaa!

Absolutely. I truly believe we'll see power in tOSU's version of the spread....but I am also looking forward to NOT being one-dimensional....to have a lot of "cerebral" aspects to our offense that pins our strengths against our opponent's weaknesses and to truly keep the defense "Guessing" It's been a long time since tOSU has kept any defense "Guessing". I love power...love over-powering your opponent...but I also draw a lot of satisfaction from truly "Out-Thinking' your opponent. Exciting days ahead Buckeye-Nation...Exciting days ahead indeed.

Being able to play multiple postions. Why??? Because that has been or was one of the biggest complaints about Bollman in that he moved the players up front to much, therefore losing continuity. You want to teach your players as many positions with in their capabilities because of possible need, discovery of a better position for that athlete and knowledge of scheme to your defensive or offensive package.

I don't have a problem moving kids around and making them learn different positions, but I don't know if I took it the way you did. I thought it seemed they asked about the depth of the line, and he responded with teaching kids different positions and putting them where they fit best. I might be wrong.

He went onto say having a starting 5, a backup tackle, guard and center. 8 good guys. It almost sounds that he is going to have is tackles, his guards and centers in those three groups.

Either way, I'm thinking upgrade on Bollman.

Lineman for a power game vs spread are different. Make no mistake, you need to be able to run in the spread and backs can be very successful (think guys like Steve Slaton at WV), but Urban's offense is not smashmouth

He did say that but also said the type of athlete he is looking for in a tackle is different than the inside guys.

Beanie would of bin awsome in it because once he broke into the secondary he was gone . Hyde has some wheels and with this new conditioning program look out we might have a new star on our hands and Ball and Dunne were in good hands . wow Beanie was special I'm going to go to Arizona and watch him play next year. its about an 8-12 hr drive from LA. less than 2hrs on the plane .I think our new offense will recruit itself .
