Corey Brown scoots toward end zone vs. Illinois

Ohio State is idle this week. But the Buckeyes, who just moved up to No. 5 in the AP poll this week, are still getting some work done. Plus notes on Rod Smith, Boren, Shazier.

It sounds like Hall will redshirt. That won't be official till after season. He only played in 3 games. NCAA will have to approve it.

Steve... if Sabino is ready for the Wisconsin game the OSU Lber situation could suddenly become very viable part of this defense..Ohio state could play a 4-3 defense and really solidify the middle of the defense..Playing a competent 4-3 vs Wisconsin could be a godsend

Great column as usual, Steve. I like the Shazier part but I would not put his perfomance even close to Teo yet. The fact that he has eleven more tackles and has played one more game is really meaningless. Teo's defense is so good that the other team has frequent 3 and outs, limiting the chances for Teo to get tackles. Shazier, on the other hand, benefitted from other teams controlling the ball with 10 play drives that he made the tackle 7 yards downfield over and over after screen passes. That is not all that impressive. Fortunately, he has really turned it up lately and the entire defense has responded. It is like when Spielman had 29 tackles vs michigan while jamie morris gashed us for 200+ yards. We couldn't get their offense off of the field and spielman piled up tackle numbers without his team preventing first downs.

Watch out for Shazier vs scUM...he was on his way to having a great game last year until he injured his knee and was reduced to playing on 1 leg the reaminder of game...he will primed to have a huge impact in The Game this year.

Great article. The reason why Meyer is saying that we could compete with those teams is that offensively we can but defensively we cannot. However he knows we won't face those teams anyways so he'd might as well motivate them and pump them up anyways.
