QB Expecting Ohio State Offer Soon

Will Ulmer

Through eight games this season Ulmer has 700 yards passing and over 1,000 rushing with a combined 15 touchdowns.

Will the Buckeyes soon make a scholarship offer to a quarterback? One on their radar screen thinks he will soon be the guy.

    • Does he really run like Brax?

    • Bill,

How does Ullmer compare to a few of the other QB we have been talking about for a much longer period of time (Barker, Henderson, Kizer, Allen, Watson)? Is his interest a function of where we think we stand with the others of is Ullmer that good? I appreciate all you do to keep us informed.

    • He doesn't run like Braxton from the film I have seen. To be truthfull, how many QB prospects have we seen that run like Brax?

    • I want a QB who is dangerous throwing the ball just as much as running...Is that asking for too much? lol

    • That pic of him on the front page looks like he is 12 years old.

    • Don't forget this is film from his sophomore year. Don't compare him to Braxton now. I like his mechanics for a young player. Runs well

    • For a recruit you can ask for anything you want.

Then then Urbanator will go out and find them for you.

I want the next Jerry Rice. Sure hands, great route running, fast and the consummate professional when it comes to putting in the work to get better.

    • Only 700 yards passing in 8 games? Can he catch footballs?

    • Bill who do YOU like best as a future prospect for QB..

Crest and Hendersn seem like longshots anymore. barker want it badly...The Allen kid from AZ seemed like the top target a whie ago but must not have impressed. Kizer, they don't seem high on him.

I like barker cause he wants badly to be a Buckeye, but I am no talent evaluator./

    • I went to St. John's College High School and I had the opportunity to watch Ulmer play against Our Lady of Good Counsel (i.e., Kendall Wright, Dorian O'Daniel) last weekend. Ulmer is VERY good. He is a 4.3 athlete and is very elusive. In my opinion, he was a very accurate passer at times but not so much at others. But considering this is an area of the game that came be developed, it doesn't concern me too much. (look at how much Troy Smith developed while here).

However, after talking to many people at the St. John's game that were in the know, the conventional wisdom was that Ulmer was going to be a receiver or running back at the next level. I'm not sure if we peaked his interest due to the fact we are recruiting him as a quarterback, because I believe most are recruiting him as an athlete. However, worse case scenario if it does not work out at quarterback he can play many other positions and he would be a weapon.

Another reason why this would be a huge pick-up is that St. John's is on the up and coming. Again, hearing through the grapevine from St. John's alums, but they are preparing to fire their coaching staff because they feel they have way too much money (and athletes) to be losing 3-4 games a year. Word on the street is they may be going after Bob Malloy (who is a St. John's alumni who is coaching the national powerhouse Good Counsel). Long story short, if we can establish a pipeline with St. John's it may reap great benefits going forward. Even without the new coach, I played with one guy who went to the NFL (Conrad Bolston - MD Terps., Minnesota Vikings) and another that came immediately after me also went to the NFL (Rico McCoy - Tenn. Vols, Tampa Bay). Bottom line, they have produced many great NFL talents in the past 15 years (RB Antwan Bailey being one).

I will try to keep you all posted going forward as I hear more.

    • Bill, 2 things:
1.) I really hope this Ulmer kid is the #3 option behind Watson and Barker. I mean the kid has only thrown for 700 yards. I know you said that he has a low % of passing plays, but this certainly doesn't bode well in trying to recruit elite WRs.

2.) Is there something going on behind the scenes regarding Barker? I truly believe this kid wants to be a Buckeye and will commit in a heartbeat if offered. But is there something the staff is seeing which is making them reluctant in offering him. Don't get me wrong, if they can flip Watson, that would be great, but I can't see how Ulmer moves ahead of Barker.

I think the OSU staff knows that Barker will commit on the spot if offered so they want to make sure that he is the guy they want. I think there are other QB's they are pursuing that will also commit immediately if they have a committable offer so the staff wants to see as much junior film and maybe even summer camp evaluation before they make their final decision on the pecking order of who they want.
