We have four (4) 4-star linebacker recruits and one (1) 3-star linebacker recruit in the 2012 class. The fact that NONE of them can play makes me question whether Fickell's coaching and/or recruiting are suspect.

What makes people confident that , with the current defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, Luke Fickell, we will make any more progress with more 4-star recruits? Unless the current players really can't learn the system or can't move in space, I'm wondering if we're heading for even more problems with the 2013 recruits.

Fickell will be coaching in 2013.....just not in Columbus. So I wouldn't worry about it much.

    • Same N. Georgia area the other action has been coming. Gwinnett county GA was the fastest growing county in the country for almost a decade. Most of these kids parents have no ties to UGA since they are likely transplants (like me).

you don't really get how rankings work, do you?

they rate them based off where they think they would be by their junior or senior year (when they are fully developed). i hope you also realize that transition from a lb in hs to a lb in major college football isn't very easy.

some guys pick it up quicker than others and maybe one of these freshman pick it up before the end of the year, but you can't expect fresh to be ready to start at lb just because they are a 4 star rating.

    • Bill:
In your opinion, is this youung Man a better prospect than the numerous Freshmen and Sophomore LBs we already have? Is he a better prospect than Mitchell or Moore? If not, then why are we offering another LB when there seem to be at least 4 or 5 outstanding 2014 LBs that we are targeting?

Because sometimes players don't pan out and because sometimes they pick somewhere else to go. I think the staff is just trying to cover their bases and leave no stone unturned. For instance, the JUCO offers we have been hearing about lately.

      I'm not Bill, but ...

2014 signees will be frosh two years from now and probably not worthy of anything more than special teams play and maybe a few snaps during that season. They may not contribute until 2015 or 2016. I think that it would be wise to try to alleviate the lack of quality depth sooner rather than later. Plus, the 2014 kids are playing their junior season in high school right now. Are we really going to put all of our eggs in that basket? There are no guarantees that we get any of these kids that are unsigned as of right now. We need to keep our options open. We don't want to end up short handed again.

It shgould be easy to flip an Auburn guy. All they have going for them is a good veterinary school and forestry program. Certainly not winning

If I were going to rank the three prospects you mentioned, I would go with Mitchell at the top, Johnson next, and then Moore. As far as the current OSU freshmen linebackers, I would rank Johnson slightly higher than any of them when they were seniors in high school.

      Thank you Bill!

Based upon your evaluation, the offer makes sense!

Because Urban the Tressel mentality where you offer a few kids at a certain position only to find out late in the recruiting that they went elsewhere. You have to offer all the best players you can because the coaches don't really know what is going through the mind of an 18 yr old kid and whether he is going to commit or not. I love their approach.
Remember Coach Meyer has 2 NC---he knows what he is doing and what he wants.

    • These ratings are so inconsistent. How can the #3 LB in the country only be a 4 star? And if he committed ti ND or Alabama he would be come a 5 star!

Atlanta to Auburn is a very very short drive.
