The Opening top 10 by another site long time guru.

  • Not cutting and pasting, and I will get full credit to Farrell, long time recruiting pundit. He has been doing this a long time, and he leverages his state guys and others really well, does his homework and due diligence. IMHO, they do the best pre national evaluations and post camp evaluations, just hard to beat. They leverage their Ohio guys expertise on Ohio kids, it does not appear they do that here at all.
Probably future OSU commit Mike Mitchell got in his overall top 10 stock up risers, and his top 10 performers both. Noted once he learns to read and react, the sky is the limit, could be a beast.
Out of the top stock decliners/fallers, no Jalin Marshall.

No OSU down grades, especially not like what what shown here with Marshall falling.
Big note was Taco Charlton, he noted besides the contraversy his comments made on the bear market earlier this week, Charlton cannot cross over, and was dominated in pads easily. He said despite what others showed, he cannot cross over, struggled mightily, and is an outside lane rusher only, and he got dominated where it counts, with pads. PS, 247 guys, football is played in pads by the way.
He also noted from a physical end not a three star guy from appearances, but from what he saw and he is not buying into the hype of future potential, he struggled, was way too high, could not cross over and again, got dominated in pads. Football is played in pads, glad Farrell realizes that.

The Ohio kids were not allowed to wear any pads. Some HS rule in Ohio.

No one used pads, it is a term used freely, you can say shells, like early spring and fall camp.
He eluded to the drills going man on man, just like early spring and fall camps, with helmets and going at it with other players, many holding and using pads in drills.
Most would know he did not mean full pads, no on does that at a 7 on 7 event.
It's the more physical portion of these camps, not like 7 on 7 and flag football when touched.
Watch any camp, the OL vs. DL go at it with helmets and man on man, that is what he eluded to.
He noted some national OL that were overwhelmed in those same drills, and very overrated to this point.

  • I'm not picking a fight with you 83, just pointing out that there were drills there where the rest of the kids were in pads, not full pads, but shoulder pads. The kids from Michigan and Ohio were not allowed to participate.

  • Mitchell going in the top 10 overall was impressive, guys like Jaylon Smith, Jalen Ramsey, Ryan Green,OJ Howard, Kendall Fuller and those types were in that.
Swoopes took a bit hit, we all saw that.

That OJ Howard is a matchup nightmare. Best TE prospect I can remember..I'd put both your guys, Woodard and Burrows, up there with Fuller. I like our CB Lewis, too, but I worry about his size. Wish he could grow an inch and put on 20 pounds.

Issue with those camps, if you had a smart offensive ex coach like Hawkins, you had an advantage on offense.
If you were a WR with Swoopes, big disadvantage, as he was erratic and bad with reads, hard for a WR to look good.
Marcell Harris was good, but he got big kudos for at least 3 floating duck passes by Swoopes into double/triple coverage back across the grain, most DB's could have intercepted those.
Howard is a big mismatch, I thought McNeil was good as well, if Bama gets both of them, the rich gets richer.
The QB and coach you had on offense, was real big for the WR's and even the RB's. Elliott made more noise for sure, his coaches knew how to use him as a receiving threat real well, so did Hawkins with Green and the other elite RB he had. Coaching made a big difference to certain offensive groups.
You can go to four sites and find four different write up's, beauty was in the eye of the beholder.

One thing all the sites agree on is Swoopes.Looks like the Longhorns dropped the ball there. I bet they wish they had targeted JT Barrett instead.

It's a little early to say that. He couldn't use his running ability which is a huge part of his game. Imagine if Terrelle Pryor had participated in an event like this... he wouldn't have been the #1 overall recruit, that's for sure.

Exactly!!! Footbal is played in pads with 22 guys on the field, not shorts and a cutoff T-shirt....

  • One of the top stock risers was Pickerington North's tight end, Jake Butt who was one of the top ten performers at the Opening. I sure wish the Buckeyes would have offered him.

Not sure which list you are eluding to, but Butt was on neither of these I referred to.
Give Farrell credit, rather than just bump kids up and down in a new poll, he went into great detail why they went up, and why they went down. Whether you agreed with it or not, there was detail and rationale supplied. Also, on the top ten, some good detail descriptions why, not a new poll with kids going up and down and no explanation, or wiggle phrases like "so and so has potential." I come to this site the most, but their post camp write ups were the best IMHO, they gave reasons for the kids that went up and down, not just a new list and very little to no explanation, it had some detail and accountability behind it.

I think any major bumps or rises do to 7 on 7 football is a joke. It's not football.

I agree, it is flag football. At least Farrell gave his views of the risers and fallers, whether you agreed with it or not, he gave reasons why. They all do that after certain camps, it is how they make money. This one here just posted a new top 100 and no rationale for anything, especially a big jump down, nothing. I at least give kudos to someone that sticks to their guns and says why someone went down or up, it at least shows their views and holds them accountable to some degree for their actions. Whether it means anything or not in the big picture probably not, but you got reasons for their decisions.

Shurburtt has always been a tool IMO from back in his ESPN days carrying over now to 24-7. This site re-ranks guys way to often.
