2013 CLASS

  • I think this year's headscratcher is Dorian Johnson. ND had great timing on their great season by taking Blivens and Smith (2 that OSU would die for) Other than that, not too disappointed, it will be a top 5 class when it's all said and done. It's about filling holes with talent.

  • I can actually see where Cdiddy is coming from. I still think we get Quick but that has nothing to do. Part of the reason why so much is expected is that Meyer came in just pulled kids out of the woodwork last year. I mean all of sudden top 100 kids just started jumping on board all within like a months time - expectations were that whoever Meyer wants, he gets but that is really unrealistic - but we were all thinking we will never have another guy we really want get away. The thing that is great is that if Meyer doesn't get a kid he has a back plan that is of almost equal talent and then a back plan for that back-up plan. I still think there will be a recruit or even 2 who are big-time that will all of sudden be in this class who nobody is really talking about right now. Meyer will get a visit late and all of a sudden the kid will be in.

  • With the success Urban had at the end of the year, most underestimated the effect of a lack of established relationships with the early deciding kids. Kids who get recruiting over quickly usually base their decisions on comfort and familiarity versus later deciding kids who often are more likely to be persuaded by a good recruiting pitch. With more kids deciding early than ever this year, it didn't work in our favor. The other schools were able to start building relationships at least a year ahead of Meyer and company.

That should no longer be the case next year when the staff is on an even playing field time wise.

Always borrow money from a pessimist; he won't expect it back.

If we don't procure Quick and/or Bell as it appears, is really good.

    Top shelf.

But I'd be less than honest if I said I wasn't a tad disappointed.

The way the 2012 class ended with Meyer, the success on the feild this year, - I was thinking we would collect 5 stars, have to beat them off with a stick.

And I know stars are not a 100% corallary to success.

I'm thinking I was a year early with my expectations and I think 2014 will be off the charts.

I do realize much can happen btw now and signing day, but we have missed on quite a few of our top targets at various positions (not that who we replaced them with are not fine prospects).
I think Bosa, Elliot, Mitchell are 3 kids who are top 50 type prospects but the class as I project it now does have a decent number of low 4 and 3 star players (again, that doesn't proclude them from being great players).

    Thoughts?

Disagree. The fate of this class does not hinge on those two players. We could very easily lose them both but still have a spectacular class.

Don't hate the media, become the media.

  • Take a chill pill. Meyer knows what he is doing in a major way. Don't place style over substance.

    Never said they did McBrutus.

What I am saying is that we have not procurred as high a % of players Meyer himself targeted as at the top of his board.

In some positions I don't think it really matters like LB - we offered about 10 kids who opted elsewhere before we end up (possibly) with Mitchell and Johnson.

At other like WR and OL, I think we are down pretty far in terms of who we initially targeted.

I agree with your OL assessment - I think we strike out here way more often than hit and really can't seem to figure out why.... for a position that STARTS 5 players all game. Taking 1-2 in a class just should not be acceptable..
