A GREAT recruiting class is still up in.....

  • the air ! Until the Bucks shore up the continuing need for quality OL'ers and WR/ Playmakers, this will remain but a good class. Yes or No ? Just Asking !

  • This will be a top 5 class. Please don't forget about Baugh, Marshall and Elliot. Those guys r playmakers! In fact Baugh has been described as unstoppable, Elliot is extremely fast and Marshall is a 5 star stud,

    Pooch11

  • Agreed.

    And a top flight safety

  • I really think Gibson will be a playmaker too!

    tarheelbuck

  • Burrows Imo is that safety because I think he outgrows corner and becomes the fast hard hitting centerfielder we need.

Fully relaxed ! ....The commits to date ..... certainly pleased; simply asking if there are critical gaps in the class that need to be addressed. !

    " chilling out" ? ... no need.

My initial post was simply an inquiry as to current recruiting efforts and how these efforts, to date, are addressing talent and position needs as often stated by both Urban Meyer and staff and this board in general.

You need to take a Valium and relax - no need for all this hating on Urban Effin Meyer!!!!

Just kidding - you commited the cardinal Bucknuts sin - you asked an honest, rational question that implies the possibility of a critical or negative answer. You will get toasted by people telling you to RELAX GODDAMMIT!!!

Recruitment class quality, at least in the early stages of evaluation, is based on two things - quality of recruits and recruiting to fill needs. We all agree that the first part of that is going nicely. The jury's out on the second part of the equation until we address the O-line. Frankly, I'm shocked at the O-line haul at Michigan over the past two years, and to some extent, at ND's this year. I have to say I can't understand it, but my understanding of it is irrelevent. They are doing something right. Our only comfort is that they can only play 2 tackles at a time - there will be a lot of talent riding the pine. If we max out this year with Pocic and Lisle, we better hope they both pan out, and that we can find some guards on the opposite side of the ball. Playmakers - I think we're fine there. We are thin at WR and safety. If we get Quick and Bell (or Cravens), as well as Pocic, we will have satisfied both parts of the puzzle, and we can call the class a great one. Then they have to live up to it...

  • People need to quit freaking out about the Tackle position.

    We have:
    Mewhort - JR
    Fragel - SR
Norwell in a pinch - JR
    Decker - FR
    Dodson - FR
    O'Conner in a pinch - FR
    Lisle - HS
    Pocic hopefully - HS

Unless someone leaves early (not likely), we have 4 OT on the roster for sure next year. We can still add Pocic and we can slide 1 of Norwell/O'Conner over if needed. We will have added 4 OT in two years if we land Pocic. We are fine. The run we make in 2013 isn't going to be aided too much by a Freshman anyhow as most the big guys are gone already.

95% of the teams in the country would be overjoyed to have a class that looks like ours in April...we have 10 months friend...enjoy the ride.

IMO we get Pocic and Johnson on the OL and call it day. I think we have a great shot at Johnson. We are in his top 5 and he has never been on campus and PSU is getting a little visit from the NCAA and the FEDS are going nowhere anytime soon. The kid has been to PSU 3 times and has not committed...thats every telling.

Gibson, Allen, and Quick...I'll take that

Well u have set expections very high lol. I hope u are right tho. Vonn bell bell wouldn't hurt either. 

  • They will get Pocic, and he's an elite OL. They will get Munger, and he'll be flipped to the OL as soon as he figures out he's not in the Spence, Pittman or Bosa class. That will give them 3 OLs, and took 4 last year. That would be 7 OLs in the 6 months Meyer has been here. How many OLs do you want on scholarship? The 12-15 range is preferable because these guys can't play special teams. Also, to maintain continuity and cohesiveness and timing, you don't shuffle them like DLs.

Hey that's great and all that we have 4 OT's next season....but you need 6. O'Conner isn't a T under ANY circumstances, It is 50/50 whether or not Dodson is going to be healthy enough to NOT RS and Baldwin isn't anywhere near being ready for prime time. That leaves us with 3 T's....all 3 of which have as many starts at T in D1 as you do. ZERO.

Why would any team "need" 6 tackles??? I get that we "want" more tackles because it's easier to move an OL down inside than it is to move an interior outside but a 2-deep at tackle fills the "need". No need to panic for sure. Could it get better by bringing in more tackles? Absolutely. But you make it sound like we're at a huge disadvantage with our current roster which is absolutely false.

  • Keep in mind that filling the receiver/playmaker roles will take some time. Although Meyer has coached other places, he is brand new to OSU and so is his offense. So recruits can only go off what he tells them he wants to do. Yes, they can refer to his years at Florida, Utah and BG but that was then and this is now...that is the mentality of a lot of these recruits. Once the season gets going and recruits see the product on the field, things will turn for the better as far as recruiting playmakers.
