I agree with BALLJACK and also with SarBuck... if the entire Buckeye Nation stopped watching ESPiN their ratings would have a noticeable drop.

I can honestly say I have not watched a single ESPiN broadcast since the entire Tatoogate debacle. I have also canceled my suibscription to $$ports Unilluminated!!!

  • Still wonder if the power switch from Big 10 to SEC would of occurred if Ginn would not of gotten hurt after running the kickoff back!

  • Excellent, excellent article Bax. I really enjoyed parts I and II. I graduated in 1993 and endured the entirety of the Cooper era and his record against TSUN and in bowl games. Jim Tressel restored so much pride in the program on and off the field, and did everything he was hired to do and much, much more. I think your point about every other college football coach doing exactly the same thing in regards to the email is 100% accurate.

Bax, a great article about a great individual.

I am from Youngstown and there are many more positive things that Tressel for others than he did for himself. There could be books written about it but he did not want that. The only negative thing in all of the years has to be expounded by others but he is still teaching not only the players who played for him but us as well.

He has moved on with his life and has not condemned others or sports networks.

Yes, he did give us 10 of the best years we could have dreamed for. He is a great individual and now we the true fans will throw 100% of our support behind Urban and the current staff.

Thanks again for the great write up and for brining many positive memories back for many of us.

  • WOW!! Great read. Thank you very much, Tress was a man among men, no two ways about it. That was a fantastic article from the beginning of part 1 to the end of part 2. Some of those highlights were a little difficult to get through without tears but I'm ok now, my wife came in while I was watching and she asked if I was crying and I told her "no, but I was about to". Watching those highlights though, I was reminded of how freakishly strong Pryor is, he was laying kids down with that stiff-arm!! Tressel will always be tops in my book and football is just one of the great things he did.

    Thanks again.

    GO BUCKS!!!

    Yeah, I said it.

  • Great articles thanks. Anyone else notice the 15 yard out from krenzel to jenkins in the 01 michigan video. Hmmm hope tressel remembers that play in a big situation down the road....

  • Exquisite read on an extraordinary coach.

2 quotes come to mind after reading the article and most of the responses.

"Great services are not canceled by one act or by one single error." - Benjamin Disraeli

"Better a Diamond with a flaw than a pebble without one." - Chinese proverb

Thank you for putting forth the effort and passion to write this piece on a man that time and distance will hopefully allow ALL Buckeye fans to forgive and then truly honor his wonderful legacy.

  • Great article. Glad that you not only point out Tressel's success on the field, but also show the success his players had in the classroom.

I still don't like to see Buckeye fans (including Bax) fail to acknowledge the severity of Tressel's transgression. He was NOT fired for failing to forward an email. He was fired for his actions several months later when he 1) lied to the NCAA in a letter he signed stating he knows on no violations when in fact he did know of violations and 2) he played individuals he knew were ineligible (if another team did this, we would rightly point out that the coach was cheating).

Like Woody, Tressel was an excellent coach and man yet fully deserved to be fired for a particular big mistake.

That's bull to say Tressel fell on the sword without emphatically saying that Tressel set the sword up that he fell on.

Why can't we just keep it real. You can say Tressel is great blah blah but it's ridiculous to marginalize his role in this especially since he had YSU in trouble.

Upvote to Turfgreens. I normally don't like posting in Tressel love threads for board peace but Bax you have to keep it real with yourself and not for the masses People's champ.

Of course. I was waiting for you to chime in. I hope you enjoyed absolutely nothing with regard to the last 10 years! I'm sure you are the guy who thinks that the interference/holding call in the national championship game was bs also and that Miami should have won. I will just never get some people!
