LOL I'm sure the attendance number is based off tickets sold and scanned at the gate. Why would they lie? It's not like you get a $30,000 crystal football for spring game attendance.

Didn't they announce 81K tickets sold and game attendance at 60K? Seriously, is this still just about undercutting the B1G so they can justify their huge conflict of interest SEC contract, or is someone over there really losing their grip on what comprises "sports reporting"? This shit's really been going kn for almost 10 years now.

Folks, I don't want to mince words here or be too genteel or use a more pleasant euphemism. So pardon me when I say that reading ESPN makes me want to vomit.

You can indeed modify AP articles but you can not add information. The blurb about the attendance looking less than 81,000 had to be in the article and was probably accurate. The attendance that gets announced as the official attendance is the "paid" or "tickets distributed" number, which was the 81,000-plus that OSU announced. And the article was probably written by Rusty Miller. Rusty is a straight shooter and doesnt look to add negativity to an article. He was merely pointing out a fact that there was less than 81,000 there, which is relavent to me because of the weather.

Ok, I will give them that there may not have been 81,100+ actually in attenddance....but I am damn certain there were 75K there. ESPN only reports things how they want people to interpret them...whether true or untrue.

I would be fine with reporting that "there appeared to be *fewer at any given time in the stands*." This may be more accurate as it is really the only observation that could be made with any sense of certainty. Some here even argue that there were that many at a given time. I can't be certain of that, but given the weather, the diverse way OSU was admitting patrons, the weather, the freedom to come and go, and the strong attraction of staying under cover, from a logical standpoint I would have preferred the AP writer qualified his/her statement on this a bit more as it, as the title of the thread suggests, calls OSU's veracity into some question. Who needs more of that given the already poisonous whiffs in the atmosphere of collegiate athletics?
