Amir Williams ?

  • Was he a 4 star out of high school?. Would you consider him a project player? I realize we need bodies for practices and all. But sometimes do you ever wonder who evaluates the talent . Do all the top programs have these same issues? Do they recruit day in and day out at a higher level than OSU? If so, what improvements would you like to see.

Here's a few inside players only that comes to mind in the last 5 years.

    Amir Williams
    Kyle Madsen
    Evan Ranenel
    Zis Sarikopoulos
    Nicola Kecman
    Matt Terwilliger
    Dallas Lauderdale (finised strong)
    JD Weathspoon

    Heres a couple for you.

    Oden, Koufas, Mullans, Sullinger.

All playing in the league. Convienently leaving out NBA talent in your point. Try again.

Btw Williams was a top 100 player. Ravenel was is a nice transfer. Lauderdale was a decent bench player. Witherspoon was a wing. And Terwilliger was recruited by OB i believe

Have you looked at the good talent that Matta has brought in while at tOSU? Probably as much talent as the previous 4 decades combined. There are always as many or more busts in recruiting than the ones that are hit on. Amir Williams was a McD's all-american who didn't play much last year. This was his first game with extended playing time. We all want to see more out of him, obviously. I'm hoping for 10 points or so out of C position this year, but they must rebound and play good defense. This team can score from every other position.

I agree, Matta has done great, I scrolled through Duke, NC, and KY rosters and dont see those type of players, that's all.. if you think its all good then im ok with it. I was just wonering if it was at there level.

This is not Duke, North Carolina or Kentucky, to compare Ohio State to those programs is ridiculous. We have a very good basketball program, but it's not legendary like the aforementioned three.

I disagree- If John Calipari was the coach at OSU he would bring certain recruting standard(way of thinking ) with him. Look at Ky records before he got there...05-06 19-13,06-07 22-12, 07-08 20-13,
    09-09 19-14 Record after taking over 09-10 32-3 ,10-11 29-9, 11-12 38-3

Do get me wrong, Thad's done a great job!! But i believe we can be Ky in basketball also.

We are never going to be like Kentucky in basketball and they are never going to be like OSU in football. Kentucky gets 20,000 fans at a practice. Thad has done a great job at OSU but comparing us to Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina is not fair. Kids grow up dreaming of playing at those schools.

What are those schools football programs like? They suck. Those are historically basketball programs. That is where their focus has and will be. Throw Kansas in there too. We are historically a football program and that is what we are know for and where our main focus is. The fact that we are having this discussion about our baskeball program speaks volumes for what Matta has done in his time here.

There are recruiting hits and misses in pretty much every program out there. Maybe fewer at the true blue bloods of college basketball, but that is to be expected. There are kids that grow up wanting to play for UNC, Duke, Kansas and KY even if they aren't from those places just because of tradition. Our basketball program does not have the historic tradition they have. It is some of the same advantages we have over other schools when it comes to football recruiting. Meyer has that advantage and Matta does not. Yet. There is not another program out there that can say they have a top 5 football and men's basketball team. We are doing OK.

He would also probably leave us on probation when he left to go to another school. Just like UMass and Memphis. It is only a matter of time before it catches up to him at Kentucky. He is dirty and we don't need that "way of thinking" here.
