Analysis: Bucks Get ‘Gem’ Of Draw

  • First of all, Barkley (I love the guy) but he is HORRIBLE at predicting and college hoop analysis....I will repeat HORRIBLE. Mind you I haven't heard a word he's said today. But whatever he says, bet the opposite.

Secondly, I absolutely LOVE this draw. It looks like I picked the teams in our bracket.

Now we just have to go out and take it.

    Go Buckeyes!!

  • Digger picking the Buckeyes to go to the title game.

Jay Williams picking OSU to win it all.

ESPN loving them some Buckeye Hoops.

good draw , we have to shoot better, esp. from 3pt land, 1 - 16 not so good. 38% and 7% from 3 pt isn't exactly setting the nets on fire. Hopefully, this was an anomaly and we will improve, hopefully too we will see more of the Q to help on the O. I could see us in the final 4 and after that, who knows. BUT we have to shoot better.

Yes, OSU was 1/16 from 3 point range but they still won the game on tired legs. As long as Ohio State keeps playing great defense, Ohio State is going to be in every single game in the NCAA Tournament. I am happy they were a #2 seed in the tournament. I never thought they would be able to accomplish this feat after the first Illinois game. Matta should have gotten Coach of the Year. Talk about adversity Matta and his team faced this season. Great win over Wisconsin.
I am so glad OSU doesn't have to play any more Big Ten teams right now. Need to focus on Iona. Gotta watch Walking Dead!

  • Seriously I think we did ok, but I watched new Mexico st last night and they have a really good athletic and legit 7 foot center. They will give us all we can handle.

    Mike Morris

  • I need to get tickets to the games while they're in Dayton. Awesome draw and I hope the team just stats focused. If they do they'll make it to the final four.

Best scenario would be Noon friday game from competitive standpoint to maximize our rest. Gotta think IU will play at nite for primetime CBS TV and hopefully they split IU and OSU into separate sessions so we don't have to battle those wackos for tickets...at least until sunday

They have never put the top 2 seeds at a given site in the same session for a "round 2" game. It makes sense...split the top 2 seed fan bases to maximize attendance, and more importantly, to max out TV viewing. That means that IU and OSU play in separate sessions this Friday in Dayton.

They also always will place a #1 seed in the primetime slot. That means that we play in Session 1. I'll bet that we are game #2 in the day session, meaning the 3pm game.

I hope that I am right....I bought Session 1 tickets at 7pm tonight!

    Go Bucks!

  • They got a great draw this year. A couple years ago we were a 1 seed and we were in by far the toughest region in the tourney. May have been the year Geno was on the selection committee. We are in the weakest region this year. Ive been telling ppl for the past 2-3 weeks that we could make a run or get bumped out the 2nd round. The brackets are set up for a run if we play ball. The play the past month has been really good.

"A lot of people are picking New Mexico to beat us, but I can't figure out why. They lost to South Dakota State....twice. They lost to Air Force. I'm not even sure who they beat that qualifies as a quality win. Cincinnati? Boise State? They lost when they played Saint Louis, who is ranked around 16. I'm not sure they played anyone else ranked. "

I don't see a 'lot' of people picking UNM over OSU.

The Lobos only played South Dakota State once. You're thinking of San Diego State.

UNM certainly didn't have the SOS that OSU endured... but this is the NCAA tourney. Throw out SOS. Just look to our loss to Siena in 2009, or to Tennessee the next year. We definitely had the tougher schedule over those teams.

It's March Madness... ain't no time to get overconfident. Any team in this tourney has the potential to win on any given day. One bad half can sink you... as per coach Matta.

We play our game, we'll keep winning. We're peaking at the right time. Looking forward to a great tournament.... GO BUCKS!

  • Dayton jinx or not, I'm taking early Friday flight out of Raleigh Durham and headed to Dayton (which is 36 miles from my hometown of Greenville). My brother who lives in Dayton copped two tickets and we will root the Buckeyes through their first two games. A bonus is NC State, my hometown team in my adopted state, is also in Dayton for its regional game as well. And no, I didn't attend grade school with the Wright brothers.P.S. OSU plays at 7:15PM on Friday

The Domers aren't even remotely the same team away from South Bend as they are at home. As long as Cooley doesn't have a career game and we shoot slightly better than today we're on to the Sweet 16 @ Staples Center.

I wish I could agree with you, and I hope you are right and I am wrong here. But ND with their 3 pointers, their successful season in the tough The Big East, will be a really tough game for OSU. Our Offense will have to be clicking and will need productivity from a third scorer not named Craft to Thomas.
Also, there is also the hope ND gets upset by Iowa State, which is another tough out for OSU as well.
But either way if we win this critical 2nd round in Dayton, I see us going all the way to the Final Fout!

  • Bout time we get a decent tourney draw. Everyone talking final four. Hell, after watchign this team early in the year I would be happy with a sweet 16. If someone had told me this team would win the big ten tournament and cap off the season knocking off Indiana, MSU (twice), and then sweep the tournament I would've called them crazier than bat shit.

Matta's team is peaking. Lets just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Seth Davis is the Mark may of college basketball. He hates Ohio State no matter what year. Charles Barkley belittled the Big Ten conference. I just hope OSU gets past Iona. Notre Dame had better look out for Iowa State. Ohio State has a nice draw I just hope they can execute it. Great win over the Badgers.

I realize these guys are just expressing personal opinions, but one would hope they could do it in an intelligent, non-biased, professional manner.
Barkeley's comments were not only sexist (comparing Big Ten BB to an ugly Homecoming Queen) but quite bluntly stupid. Yes, the Big East has some good Teams and is the only real competition the Big Ten has for top status in Men's BB. But, the best Teams in the Big East play a similar brand of BB as the best Teams in the Big Ten - Defense first. Barkeley, I guess, called all the Big Ten Teams "ugly girls" because many Big Ten teams play tough Defense first and foremost.

Furthermore, no Team in the Big East has a point Guard comparable to either Craft, Burke or Scott. And, no Big East Team has a big Man who could handle either Zeller, Nix or Bergerron. There is no team in the country that is more athletic or better (as a Team) defensively than OSU. Finally, Indiana, although I detest their Coach's behavior, has the best talent in the country. That's not ugly, biased or sexist Charles, that is just factual.

Seth Davis also needs to work on his professionalism. Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion that he feels Big Ten teams are overrated. But, you should only express an opinion that is based upon fact. Gonzaga played no one of substance this year other than Illinois, and they lost to Illinois - perhaps the 6th best Team in the Big Ten with 9 or 10 losses to Big Ten teams. Ohio State has lost 7 games this year. Five to Big ten Teams and the other two to Duke and Kansas (which are #2 and #1 seeds, respectively). It is possible that no Big Ten Team will make it to the final four. It is also possible that 4 Big Ten Teams could make the final four. Mr. Davis had better hope for the former, because he will not survive the onslaught of criticism if it is the latter.

The Buckeyes shoot 36% from three and Notre Dame shoots 37%. I don't see a huge concern there. They've been a fringe Top 25 team at best all season and have pretty much dropped every game to higher ranked team with the exception of the five overtime thriller at home vs Louisville. We'd have to play pretty dam poorly to lose this one in my opinion. Color me unconcerned.

  • ,,, I didn't understand some of the details on how to 68 overall seeding was distributed into the four regions. It looks like no.1 overall getting the region closest to home; then no.2 getting the remaining region closest to home, then no.3, with no.4 going to the last region where ever it's located.

Then don't they normally seed overall 5 vs 4, 6 vs 3, 7 vs 2 and 8 vs 1; but as no.8 we'd be facing Louisville rather than no. 4 overall Gonzaga. One of the announcers seemed to say that that the 2 seeds were distributed geographically rather than if normal tournament-style. Looks like that's how we got favorable seeding; and Louisville got 'shafted'.
