Best and most well thought out article I've ever read on Bucknuts!
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
“Without winners, there wouldn't even be any civilization.”
I called into The Fan the other day as I was frustrated that the talking heads seemed oblivious to the whole AAU and academic side of the situation. Even they seemed "surprised" when I pointed-out that Nebraska had been AAU when they joined and THEN lost status. ~shrugz~
I definitely think you're right about the sports writing world being largely oblivious to the fact that Universities are stand-alone entities that need more than full stadiums and arenas to function.
You explained this part of the equation in far greater detail that most of us could have. I only had a vague sense at some of the details and multiplying factors you brought to light here.
Charles, well done...well written +1 * 1000
On the football side, it still ends up being a bad deal for TOSU and the B1G. It completely makes sense academically, but that money will not go into the football program.
The SEC will bring in a lot of money for their football programs and have never really cared about their academic profile.
I get the academic side and like a lot of what it brings (although you don't need conferences to set up a similar structure of cooperation). However, this is ultimately bad for the football product and will hurt their competitiveness.
It makes sense the smart people are co-opting Delany to aggrandize themselves at the football programs' expense, which is the mechanism allowing for expansion.
Cleveland Orchestra Baby!! World's greatest!! The Brown's wet dream is to be them. The Ohio State University-Where the Illibuck Lives!
@CharlesBabb-- That would be a fascinating article even if I didn't care about football...Consider myself educated, but was unaware of the depth of relationships between B1G members; also ignorant of the SCALE of the economics of the sports departments and where the actual money really is. Thanks for the education.
charles babb..... back with a bang, buddy!!!
good to see you in the fold once again.... it's been too long....
now stop with all this expansion nonsense and start calling recruits!!!
Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
