Breaking Down The 2013 Schedule

I got a kick out of your coaching forest comparison, stating that Tressel's is not as impressive as Meyer's. You count both head coaches and defensive coordinators for Meyer's forest, and you include all conferences. But you count only head coaches for Tressel's forest, and only those in the Big Ten. What kind of comparison is that? Seems to me the criteria is rather suspect.......:-)

Haha. Nice try there. The only coordinator I mentioned was Mattison. I suppose I should have mentioned Mark Snyder too, since he was a HC at Marshall and is now doing a good job as Texas A&M's D-coordinator. Mel Tucker too. But the point I was making is that Tressel's coaching tree and Meyer's coaching tree are both very impressive, but I would give the edge to Meyer. Mullen and Strong are doing big things. Dantonio has been solid and we'll see about Hazell. But Meyer gets the edge from me ... and he's much younger than Tress. Pretty amazing Meyer's coaching tree, er, forest at such a young age. Imagine what it will look like years from now when he's got guys like Tom Herman and Ed Warinner out there as HC's too.

  • This analysis is absolutely correct. We will start high so we wont have to jump many. And yes, 25 in a row will have to play for the NC. Our longest winning streak is 22. With all that said, I never believed we would be 12-0 this year but did believe, on game day, we would win every time out. Lets do it the same way. One at a time. Go Bucks Beat Buffalo.

Even if we go 13-0 and win the B1G title....we won't get a whiff of the NC game if their is another unbeaten and a 1-loss SEC team...nor should we with the dogsh*t schedule we have.

agree for the most part. I raised this about a week ago and asked why are we not buying out the florida a&m game and adding something better? with the money this school makes, if we did the buyout we could easily entice a better opponent to come here with a hefty payout. and losing neb. and msu really hurts.

13-0 with this schedule does not guaranty a title game shot.

doug lesmerises in the pd a few weeks ago stated even if we were eligible this yr we probably would have been behind bama and finished #3.

so gene and urban, why is fl. a&m still on the schedule?

  • Yes, there is absolutely no question in my mind that if OSU goes 13-0, they'll be playing for all the marbles next season. They will start the season No. 1 or No. 2 in the polls most likely. They'll need some style points along the way with such an "easy" schedule (on paper, that is) but something tells me style points will never be a problem with Urb around.

I think you are right dave, but it could get ugly if there is an unbeaten ahead of us and a 1 loss sec team right behind us at #3.

  • I'd hate to see it 2 weeks in a row though. That's why they need to redo the divisions.

  • If we go 24-0 under Meyer, were getting into the title game. Northwestern and scum are the toughest games, and neither seem to be much of a threat. I think Gardner is very overrated and was exposed against us.

Heck no! I would love to see it 2 weeks in a row. That would really burn them up!

Keep in mind, it would be 25-0 because OSU would also have to win the Big Ten title game (perhaps in a rematch v Michigan) to get in the national title game. Should be fun!

  • Maybe an easy schedule is okay while we are still down a few scholarships. If we continue to win it can't hurt national recruiting.

Yes, you could have mentioned Mark Snyder. And other Tressel assistants who have become head coaches and coordinators. That would then make a better picture for comparison. I certainly agree that both have impressive coaching trees.

  • Stank ass schedule but it is what it is......just like this season all we can do is go out and play the games and the teams that are on our schedule.

We need to demolish the teams we should demolish and we have to win the B1G Championship game to guarantee the BCS bowl game. We have to hope that some of our B1G bretheren have stronger seasons than people are anticipating to get our SOS up to help in the rankings.....

Toughest games of the year: It is sad.....really. Who? I am going to say at Northwestern and at scUM.

We play PissU, Iowa, and Wisky at home......not sure what to make of Cal or even Purdue with Hazell being new. Illinois? geesh....they have historically played us tough but man, they are freaking bad.

No reason we should not go undefeated unless we have a rash of huge injuries (fingers crossed) or we just complete throw up a turd ball in one game.

The rest wil have to be left up to the voters and how the teams ranked above us play. We could go undefeated and easily be left out of the National Championship game......

    http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Article/Breaking-Down-The-2013-Schedule-106424

We give a detailed analysis of Ohio State's 2013 football schedule. Could it actually be easier than the 2012 slate? What are the toughest games the Buckeyes will play?

I don't know if it will be easier or not but Ohio State will be better. I hate that we Lise some really good heart and soul guys like Simon Boren and Hankins.. But if Robey returns him and Shazier will lead the Defense and on Offense almost everyone is back and I think Braxton and Philly Brown will become bigger leaders and that will help our Offense grow up Also Hyde and good ole #7 will be back ßack!! Northwestern is a really good team and could be tough also Cal on the road they have good talent and a new coach ...I will be at that game I cant wait!!! We could go 13-0 It will be harder then you think but this team refused to Lose and still never peaked Offensively .. Games were won playing Tressel ball in the second half of the season so we could keep Braxton healthy and Hyde was a beast he should of gotten 1,000 yards but next year running back by committee we will punish teams!!!

Yep, West Virginia would have been available without much difficulty. The same sked this year was rated 98th best in one comp ranking.

It won't be any better next year with no Nebraska or MSU

I think WVU would have been hard to mix in as they had to drop FSU because of schedule issues when they moved to B12.

I thought you were a big proponent of OSU and UM being in the same division. That playing twice in any year would diminish the rivalry.

Glad to see you came around. :)

  • In arguing playoffs vs bowls, I have been assured that an undefeated OSU team would NEVER, EVER be left out of the championship game.

So I am not concerned < sarcasm font off >

  • I agree with others about not liking the schedule next year. I'd rather see a "Texas" or a similar team in the non-conference schedule.

    My prediction though...as things currently stand....Meyer 24, rest of B1G 0.

I assume this means that a 2013 ,12-0 season would NOT get us in a National championship game(strength of schedule).

Tough to deny a team that would be 24-0 over two years and in a BCS conference.
