    Y'all don't know me.....Dirt Nasty.

  • OK, I feel a bit stoopid here in not picking up on this thread as I just tend to do my A-10 thing (swoop in, drop ordnance, zoom out). 100% disabled/cancer thing: still just too painful to sit in a chair for too long. However, as a Navy and AF vet and Army civvie who worked with their EOD/WMD folks, I feel like a complete jerk in not getting to this sooner. Not at all savvy on the paypal thing, but will add my bit however we can do this. One of my ex-students in Afghanistan (just when it all broke out) used to email me and tell me he thought of me before each mission. Never knew what that really meant. There's a scene in the movie, 12 O'Clock High where the Lt. Col. Stover character (Dean Jagger) says how he suddenly started to forget all the faces that have been lost. While that sadly is becoming true at my age, that doesn't mean we forget to take care of those still here or their families still making the life-long sacrifice. Jar, if you could just humor an old man and tell how I can help, I'd be hugely obliged. As the US commitment will appear to lose the front page headlines, those still behind will be more easily forgotten and need our attention to an even greater extent.

First, thank you for your long service.

Second, if you'd like to support the cause, you can either send via paypal to my wife's account (tjc2627 at gmail dot com) or via sending a check to my home

    Ed Carter
    2627 Eckert Road
    Lexington, OH 44904.

You will have to make any checks payable to me personally, because I have not set up a 501(c)(3) due to the extra work it would involve. However, I promise that every dime goes to support Buckeye Troops (who are surely sharing with others). I also post accounting info regularly.

  • As my British wife would write: "Cheque it is." (Further, as she refuses to let such a precious device such as a checkbook anywhere near my hands, you'll be receiving a check shortly from Mrs. Spin Dr. in the time it takes for the snails to crawl north). It will be some random amount she figures we can afford, but please note that we do other service programs as well (my wife says that we may once have been rich, but I can't seem to keep from giving away our funds -- and she's right. It is, truly, only money, and many, many others need it more than me -- especially in a cause like yours).

Sir, my check is for $100 and it's in the mail tonight. I'm a finance / IT geek, so if you want someone to make the 501c3 happen, give me the word. I think it could only help with the contributions. Your work, and your service to the boys who give us the freedom we have could never receive enough to compensate for the price they gladly paid. Thank you. That's why I call him Sir, and anyone else that has served. I don't care if you ever saw live action - if you served, I owe you. Bless you, brother. Muso

  • Tithing is what separates those of us on Bucknuts. We gladly do it as brothers that proudly served - whether it was to our country or University or both. Lord help those that get in our way when we are united - as we "will play physical, we will play square and we will play with violent hands."

Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will be put to work for the folks with boots in the sandbox. BTW, the idea of a special treat for a service member that we are discussing offline is an incredibly generous offer. You sir, are a very good man no matter how that turns out.

As far as a 501(c)(3) is concerned. The subject has been broached before and I've given it thought in passing. Frankly, I have shied away from the idea (without doing in-depth research) because of a fear of added administrative burden...like filing taxes, etc.

I will give it more thought and do a little research into what sort of additional demands it would place on my time, our resources, etc. I'll let everyone know after I get my research done.

Rest assured that if I proceed down that path, I will be recruiting you to help. (And like Meyer with football prospects...I won't take no for an answer. lol )

  • Bruce and Richard, your paypal donations were received this month in the amounts of $30 and $50 respectively. I apologize for not letting you know earlier.

  • Sir, "no" is not in my vocabulary. I will aid OUR cause in any and every way I can. Look forward to making something special happen for those who truly deserve our gratitude, but it won't stop with one awesome trip for one awesome serviceman. This is only getting started. I'll do all the work and pay the fees when the time comes to make the 501c3 a reality. I guarandamntee that despite all the incredible work you have done, WE (as all on this board and all reading this thread) can double the donations - just as I fully expect OUR bucks to double OUR wins this year.

  • Update:

Shipments went out today all 4 units we are supporting now (7 camps since our Spec Ops guys are being distributed to 4 remote camps by Maxdamdil).

We've also made some purchases, received donations of both Money and Movies/Video Games and Books.

    Attached are the summaries.
