Buckeyes vs. Bearcats in Boston

Ohio State learned late Sunday that it will play Cincinnati in Thursday's NCAA East Region semifinal. UC knocked off Florida State 62-56 on Sunday to advance to the Sweet 16.

  • I just saw a Tweet that the 4 Ohio teams have a combined 17 players from the state of Ohio on their rosters. Great scene in the OU locker room after their game with the president coming in and saluting Coach Groce. Called him "the best coach in America." He won't be there much longer, I'd say.

Full schedule for Thursday and Friday (plan accordingly):

    Thursday
    East Region at Boston
Syracuse vs. Wisconsin, 7:15 p.m. (CBS)
Ohio State vs. Cincinnati, 9:45 p.m. (CBS)

    West Region at Phoenix
Michigan State vs. Louisville, 7:47 p.m. (TBS)
Marquette vs. Florida, 10:17 p.m. (TBS)

    Friday Games
    South Region at Atlanta
Baylor vs. Xavier, 7:15 p.m. (CBS)
Kentucky vs. Indiana, 9:45 p.m. (CBS)

    Midwest Region at St. Louis
North Carolina vs. Ohio U., 7:47 p.m. (TBS)
    Kansas vs. N.C. State, 7:47 p.m. (TBS)

Somebody Tweeted that there are 17 combined Ohio players on the 4 Ohio teams still playing. And it's the first time the Sweet 16 has had 4 teams from one state. Great stuff.

Big Ten has four in Sweet 16 first time since 1999.

Unfortunately I live in greater Cincy and have to put up with no tOSU coverage...I sent a scathing letter to the editor's of the worst rag in the country, The Enquirer, as this Sunday they didn't have 1 mention of the OSU/Gonzaga game at all....not 1....they had stories on Kentucky ,Indiana,Louisville, UC, Xavier and hell they even had the Ohio University score and recap but not one mention of tOSU....a state school, you know, the largest one in the country.....and not one peep about the Buckeyes....that shows you what a turd paper the Enqueer really is....we had better wipe the floor with the bearkitties or it will be a long summer..........

    GO BUCKS!

I'm gong to lay out the football schedule for the next 5 years, show me one, just one game Ohio State fans would find acceptable to lose.

  • I love my Football Bucks but my heart has always been with the Bearcats Hoops squad, even through the horrible last decade haha. I think it will be a good matchup, obviously the Bucks are more talented but the Cats are scrappy and wont give up. Either way, it just nice to have the Cats relavant again, it would be nice to have a regular game set up each year Kansas - Mizzou style. Good Luck to all.

That's amazing! I understand the coverage of other schools which are geographically close by, but to have no coverage of tOSU has to be a conscious decision at the paper. Someone on the editorial staff is poking their finger in tOSU's eye, just for the sadistic fun of it. An editorial decsion like that -- to ignore your state's largest university and it's very successful basketball program-- would get you a failing grade in any journalism school in America.

Tell me there's at least a story today about the state sending 4 teams to the Sweet 16.

  • I think Craft is going to have a half dozen steals. Did you see the Cincy point guard and how high he dribbles?

  • I'm glad we get a shot at UC. I was at OSU when we lost two straight national championships to them. How painful! Those losses were especially tough for Jerry Lucas since UC was his original college choice but he cooled on them when they stiffed his high school coach, Paul Walker, for the UC coaching job. That bitterness is the also the main reason he signed with the Cleveland Pipers coming out of OSU. He didn't want anything to do with Cincinnati. Of course, he ended up playing for the Royals for many of his NBA hall of fame years.

This UC matchup gives us a little extra incentive . . .although we hardly need anymore incentive. Go Bucks! Keep it rolling!

Look, this IS a hsitoric stance by the editorial staff. It was the same thing in the 1950's when I was growing up in Cincy. I didn't think much about it then because that was just the way it was --- UC, Miami, ND and Xavier all sports, Kentucky and Indiana in BB, and Louisvile was largely ignored. OSU might be mentioned from time to time, but OSU was largely viewed as outside our (Cincinnati's) realm of importance. Could it be that the editorial practice has simply NEVER been refocused?? I know that Cincy was very provincial, but over the years I would have hoped that it had come out of its provincial shell, but maybe not (I haven't lived in CIncy since going to OSU in 1960).

Wow, some very interesting match ups. I am thinking that all these games are going to be fun to watch. Different styles and philosophies. Wisconsin and Indiana showed up well for the B1G but me thinks they could be on their way out. I really like OSU and MSU to advance to elite 8. Would love to see both but at least one get into the final 4.

It would be awesome to have 4 Big Ten teams in the elite 8. Don't think it will happen but it would be very cool.

You forgot to mention my UD Flyers. They were runner-ups in seven NIT's before they finally won the title. Great home and home games between UD, UC, Miami, and Xavier. Louisville and Western Kentucky were also very strong programs on UD's schedule.

OSU may have been ignored in Cincy but Robin Freeman and Frank Howard were playing some good Big Ten basketball at the fairgrounds in those days. They used to be on TV every Saturday afternoon.

  • Awesome stuff, and maybe this explains why Hoke uses the term "Ohio". It's not being disrespectful, we're just that good at things here in O-H-I-O. Enough to supply 4 separate NCAA basketball teams (not to mention a couple of teams from that state up north) with 17 players from this great state. That is impressive, I don't care who you are.

Also, other than tOSU playing Cincy on Thursday, I'll for sure be rooting on all of the Ohio teams this weekend.

  • As a UC basketball fan I might have to stay off the boards for a few days. I love OSU football and don't want to get mad at a few of you guys who are slamming UC.

Either way I will root for the winner of this game the rest of the way.
