Bucks Close In On Commitment No. 7

Last week Bucknuts had a story about an Ohioan to keep an eye on for a possible OSU offer. Tonight Jim Tressel made that offer and it could soon mean another commitment.

Any commitment right now would be good. Hopefully Dodson will be the next to commit after he gets his offer! This kid isn't going to wait until Feb is he?

Lets hope we can beat out UCONN, Bowling Green, Ohio and Indiana or were really in trouble.

  • Bill do you think this means they intend on turning a TE into a tackle? Seems with two studs just a year ahead of this kid something doesn't smell right

  • So he didnt commit? The title is deceiving. Bill, do you think were going to stop recruiting that TE from cali?

  • he could still redshirt and put another year between the both of them... we currently have 4 TE's right now... not like it's that big of a deal.

We only have 18-20 scholarships in this class to give - there is no way they take 2 TE's this class, frankly I am shocked they offered this kid who really has very few offers considering this is supposed to be a banner year in Ohio.........this makes me wonder if they are starting to worry a bit about the lack of buzz around the recruitng game right now.

  • 30 receptions in HS for a TE is impressive. Redshirting seems likely and gotta love a kid from a great school who wants to be a Buckeye! AMDG

  • Interesting after hearing they may have turned down a commitment from the Cali TE. Made me think they were worried about their amount of schollies, any assumptions as to why this kid was offered before Grant at St. Eds? Also, any mention as to if they would actually want to move him to tackle? I bet they wouldn't say so until down the line.

  • Sorry but I don’t understand this one? No disrespect at all to Blake but we don’t offer a kids in a area of great need like a Taylor Decker, Kyle Dodson or a Benny McGowan? Hope we can convince him to not go to Ohio U. or Toledo instead of Ohio State…

Yeah, in hindsight I bet the staff wishes they offered Decker or McGowan.

I'm with you. Another TE is not a priority (or need of any kind for a few years unless we change offenses). OTs (and especially LTs) are a friggin desperate need and we let idiots like Holbrook and Bollman make us pass on the likes of Decker, McGowan and as of now Dodson. Mystifying to say the least.

  • Another possibility, since someone questioned the 6'4" height of Thomas in a previous article. Maybe with Zach Boren being a Junior this year, and the possibility that Thomas may not get too much bigger, maybe they bring him in as FB/TE possibility. Considering he has 4.75 speed, good hands and can block, it could be a possibility that he might end up being the next FB. This kid wants to be a Buckeye and is a possibility at a couple of positions (TE, FB and he might grow into an OL). I know scholarships are limited, but I think this is a good offer, and you have to love his attitude.

We're not passing on Dodson - waiting on the score. And the rule keeps us from offering kids who couldn't make it academically (wasting a scholarship) cause if you can't make an 18, you got no business going to college. If we end up with Kallis, Boren, Dodson, and another 4 star OT given all the drama, it will be a great haul so everyone relax a bit. February is still 9 months away.

Having not offered yet = "passing for now, we don't have faith in you...you'll have to prove it kid" as far as a recruit is concerned. That is especially true when all other major programs have already offered. Don't think for a second that all the schools who've offered haven't made that point either.

Much better to offer, get a commitment and have to late refuse/cut a kid later than wait and maybe miss.

  • I do not like this move. A kid like this you can get as a fall back plan a week before signing day. Why not take the kid from Cali? This kid isn't ranked on any major recruiting service. Look at his offers. Sounds like another Underwood,Brown,Carter all over again. 30 catches for 300 yards 10 yards a catch in High School for a Ohio State Caliber player is Aweful. Just my two cents

I am not a fan of the offer at all - they have 4 TE's in the system already, the only way they should take a TE is if he is a National Recruit which this kid is not.........he may end up being an awesome TE but the offer makes no sense at all when you look at the numbers and the great D-lineman in the Ohio class and the value of TE in the Buckeye system. You need at minimun 2 more O-lineman in this class.......If he does committ he may do so at the expense of taking a Strobel, LaTroy Lewis or Dwayne Stanford later down the line.

Never heard of that rule - how did they offer Carlos Hyde?

He absolutely knows that OSU has this rule and knows he has an offer conditional upon the qualifying test score. How does that equal "no faith ?" Not an issue.
