Bucks To Make New Offer Today?

The Buckeyes are set to host a prospect today that piqued their interest at camp last month. It would be anything but a shock if their next scholarship offer is extended.

  • Is TOSU kind of reaching for a guy. His yards per catch seem good but only 15 catches last year seems awful low. Was this kid hurt or whats with the catches.

  • Great story Bill. I hope we get Lewis on the spot today!

Where does this leave Dwayne Stanford in OSU's plans?

  • Perhaps the reason he is rated so low is because of the small number of catches last year. Maybe he was injured and saw limited playing time. Perhaps he's an absolute beast that will blow up this year. If that isn't the case, and we really are reaching for these 2 and 3 star prospects, maybe Fick should start reaching for a position of need like offensive tackle.

You can't really judge WRs on their HS numbers. So many HS offenses are run oriented and so much depends on how good his QB is. I am not that familiar with Pick Central so I don't know what we should expect from WR from this school.

His HS team did not have a good passing game. Lewis completely tore up the camp circuit this summer.

No, he wasn't hurt. His team is not really a big throwing team so he is not likely going to catch 50 or 60 passes even this year.

Bill, I am wondering how one gets to be a good enough WR (hands, routes, etc.) for a Big 5 in a program that doesn't pass? WR seems like a position that takes reps...many reps...to be really good. Or, is the kid just that talented and/or is getting his reps other than on game day? Just curious!

Often a parent will talk about stats and honors for high school prospects (their son) and I always tell them recruiters don't care one bit about that type of thing. They really don't care how many catches a player has for instance or if the player was all this or all that.

Bill and Coach, I understand and agree in regard to the analysis part, but my question is more along the lines of how a kid manages to get to a point where a Big 5 wants him if he doesn't get reps. I am not questioning his ability. I just want to understand how he got so good without having the ball thrown to him. I don't doubt what he did at camp nor do I doubt that he is good enough to play at OSU. I am just fascinated how one gets to this level if he is not seeing the ball. My guess is that he has talent and that he is working outside of his HS. If so, good for him for taking the initiative!!!!!

  • Roger let me know that he won't be visiting Ohio State today like originally planned because his mother had to work. He hopes to get to Columbus soon.

I first saw Roger at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp in the winter at the University of Michigan. He was awesome. He was then really good at the Ohio State NFTC. He played cornerback at the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 National Championships and was one of our top performers from the weekend. He's a talented football player that could help a team on both sides of the ball. I know West Virginia likes him in the secondary.

  • Lewis with his speed could be exactly the direction we need to go in. More speed! I love the way these camps produce the kind of talent we can utilize in our program.

Roger? I guess you are a friend of his? Forgive me for not knowing.

For my 2 cents, I like his size and he sounds really fast and athletic. I am not too worried about his lack of catches, remember Ted Ginn Jr. was a Corner and a qb all through HS, and I'm sure we would love to have him back.

  • I agree on all that has been said about the true picture HS stats provide. But I did not see anyone take light of the fact he scored 7 TD's with 15 catches...

  • I know Mark Porter absolutely loves this kid, you can be an outstanding receiver in HS and maybe only be targeted 3 times per game - the kid looks like the real deal to me - Frank Epitroupolous only had 29 catches last year and I love the kid.

It is so much about athleticism, Bas. Getting to camp and showing good measurables, showing he can catch the ball and has the basic aptitude to run routes and get off the line of scrimmage. You get better with reps but so much about this at this stage is natural ability.
