Calling OSU "Ohio" - Do you really care?

  • It does bother me, only because it creates confusion with OU. On the flip side, I rather enjoy it because I'm sure that "OHIO" translates from the Indian word for "VICTORS"!!!!

  • You know what pisses me off the most about it? The fact that if you tell the fanbase you don't care because its stupid then they go all high and mighty on you because surely if you think its stupid then it bothers you or surely if you have to make a post about it you care. I mean the name itself doesn't bother me but the fact that you can't tell them how dumb it is w/o them thinking it bothers you is insane.

  • MAYBE, if they concentrate on winning as much as they concentrate on calling us OHIO, they will be better off. I doubt that they'll win more games, but their concentration will improve.

    On the other hand, I can't imagine our coaches being petty enough to play this game. But I would not be disappointed if meyer or matta were to call them michigan college or something like that.

  • I don't mind it at all because Meyer remembers that stuff. Georgia disrespected Meyer and the Gators with a team end-zone celebration in 2007. In 2008 Meyer pulled out all the stops and drilled Georgia 49-10 I think it was. On top of that Meyer was calling timeouts late in the 4th quarter just to rub it in. It will be a drastic change from what JT did but I for one, welcome it especially against the wolverines. So yes, by all means, keep calling us OHIO and pressing Meyer's buttons....cheers

  • Is it too many words for Hoke to remember ? or is it too hard to say State with a mouth full of twinkies ? It also sounds to me like he may be copying W.HAYES, That team up north. Didnt he do something similar to what Tressel did when he was hired, announcing at a b-ball game in the same fasion? hummmm

  • I actually love it. My college roommate works for scUM and he had gotten into the habit of referring to OSU as Ohio. He once said to me Hoke won his first meeting with "Ohio" and I said "how is that surprising considering the Bobcats aren't that big a deal in football? To bad he hasn't defeated Ohio State yet." He's back to calling them Ohio State. biggrin

    I have to be honest though, it upsets me. I can live with Hoke doing it because when it is all said and done, he is 1-0 vs us. But for JB to jump on the bandwagon after all these years and having a 2-12 (??) record vs us? That pisses me off. If you want to slam someone, you better be able to beat them when it counts. I hope that we beat scUM by 40 this year and afterwards Meyer meets Hoke at midfield and says "It's Ohio State Mother-f$%ker."

    I for one HATE the disrespect aspect of that being done too us! But I also can't give you enough upvotes for your sentiments!

  • I just got a copy of the book Buckeye Glory Days... and there is a CD of old original radio broadcast highlights... we were called Ohio by our own guy in the glory years of the 70's.... I have no problems with that.. the Rose Bowl end zone's even read Ohio .. and not Ohio State... I think it's great.

  • Just another reason to despise Hoke....It's stupid, but Ohio State really DOES represent the State of Ohio. So, Hoke is just referring to the collective, even though he probably thinks that he's witty in that little Garbonzo Bean sized brain that he has.

    And some Buckeye basketball uniforms had just the word "Ohio" on them. Calling Ohio State simply "Ohio" is a vintage reference from when Hoke was a kid living in SW Ohio. I'm amused by it.

  • I think it's a little childish and disrespectful, but it's fine with me. How would it sound if Coach Meyer and Matta in an interview said that they are happy about recent the win over scUM. Not necessary
