Basketball columnist Lee Caryer reflects on the decisions Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas made regarding the NBA.

  • Lee, I do not comment very often, but I do read all of your articles.

Thank you for the great work you do inpresenting basketball from your distinctive and qualitative point of view. Your contributions are a great addition to this site.

  • Can't say I don't completely agree with you, both of these kids made the right decision.

  • Thanks for all of your reviews this year. They were always pretty much right on and provided a great addition to this site. Already look forward to your analysis during the next year in which our record may not show it but I think we will be a better team than this year.

  • IF Deshaun is smart enough to heed your advice, Lee, what a joy he will be to watch next year! There is nothing more pleasurable as a fan than to watch one of our players mature from a kid to a man right before our eyes. It is all therre for Deshaun to reach out and grab ahold of. He just needs to make the commitmrent to do so!

  • It would have been nice to have Sully one more year but I think it would have hurt the development of a couple other players who will step up. I think if we have Sully, we are a final four team once again andn maybe win it this coming year. However, we have a great team coming back with Thompson and Amir Williams and a few others filling in. Next year is going to be exciting watching these younger players develop.

  • Great stuff Lee! Anyone that knows DT make sure he reads this article. Those extra workout suggestions sound like they came straight from John Wooden or Woody Hayes.

  • Another fine article Lee.

Thanks Sully for 2 great years. Look forward to seeing DT develop into one of the premier players in CBB next year.

I think next years team will surprise a lot of folks. I thought last years team had a much better shot a winning it all, but this years team was the one that had a better run and made the final 4. If Sam T and Amir develop, next years squad can do some damage as well.

    Go Bucks

  • Thomas is so much fun to watch, and when he is in a "zone"-watch-out...a pure shooter, who can create down low, always seems to have a nose for the ball, and never saw a shot he did not like.....what a nucelas for the 2013 team!

  • Thanks for the many, many positive comments about the column this year. I appreciated the well-reasoned disagreements also. One more piece next week will wrap things up.

  • Lee....you are the expert and as far as DT goes, i agree and i can't blame Sully for turning Pro, but, i don't completely agree. I think that Sully would greatly benefit from another year in college. If he leaves now, yes, he will get his money and i do not blame him. But, he is not even close to being ready for the NBA. Yes, he can compete somewhat in todays MBA(Mediocre Basketnall Association), but as far as the real NBA, no, he can't compete. Sully can't defend the perimeter even by todays standards, he can't score consistently enough inside, he doesn't have a consistent outside shot yet, but he will be a reliable rebounder. The effort from Sully will be there but he will ultimately fail because his skill set is as a 7+ foot center but he has a 6'8" or maybe 6'9" body that plays below the rim. Is the potential there, yes, i think so, but should he be making millions and millions of dollars on that possibility, i don't think so. Unfortunately, the Pimps and predators that are the NBA evaluate everything based on future potential and that is why his stock has dropped significantly since his freshman year so he must go now or risk dropping out of the 1st round completely. I hope and pray everything turns out great for him and he is a high level competitor so i think in the end he will be good. I am sure you may not agree but that is just my opinion and i am a real big basketball fan. Go Bucks!!!!
