  • Sounds like a true leo for us. Someone who can rush the qb and drop into coverage. Plus urban sees upside.

  • In Urban 6 recruiting seasons at Florida...his average:

    3 Star commits - 6 per yr - Rivals - [6 year total 35]
    DE/DT - 4 per yr - Most - 6 commits in 2007 [6 year total 23]
    LBs - 3 per yr - Most - 4 commits in 2005 and 2008 [6 year total 19]

At OSU Urban 1st 1 1/2 recruiting seasons (including some Fickell commits for 2012)

    2012 - 3 Star - 9 - Rivals - including some Fickell commits...like Michael Thomas WR ( still only 3 above Florida yearly average)
    2013 - 3 Star - 1 - Rivals - so far

    2012 DE/DT - 4 (equal to Florida ave)
    2012 LB - 5 (1 above Florida ave)

    2013 DE/DT - 2 (so far)
    2013 LB - 1 (so far)

The bottom line is that Urban is following the same pattern that he used at Florida...regarding 3 Star Commits....DE/DT commits and LB commits. For some strange reason, I think he knows what he is doing...and if one guy (like this NC guy) commits and the staff is excited...I'm not sure they are too worried about the guys who decided to wait and miss out. Urban is not the type who likes getting stood up at the alter...he is going to get the guys who want it now. And given he took in 6 Three Stars per year at Florida, its pretty obvious that many 4 and 5 stars went somewhere else over his 6 years...and he still managed to win a couple national championships. The facts are very clear when you look at his Florida recruiting record. So, I'm not sure we should be too concerned that he is getting too many DTs, DEs, LBs, 3 stars, blah blah blah.

Though I know I spend a dozen hours a year looking at recruiting videos and reading bylines of players, I'm going to give Urban and his staff the nod when it comes to HS player evaluations, judgments, position quotas etc. I know..call me crazy.
