Hey guys, I know we lost to duke last night, and several players, some of which I have previously posted, definitely struggled last night... And for us to be as good as we'd all like, those guys will have to step up throughout the year... That being said, last night could've been worse... Last night's game had the makings of a blowout, on paper:
1. Redemption for last year's blowout
2. Duke had already beaten 2 top 5 teams (plus Minny and VCU)
3. We hadn't played anyone
4. Cameron Indoor may be toughest venu in college hoops
5. Coach K is on a roll (team USA and early season success)
However, did everybody else notice we controlled that game last night for 34 minutes? Despite Aaron Craft having one of his worst "big games" of his career? Despite Thomas sitting more than half he 1st half with foul trouble? Despite our role players barely hitting the rim on jumpers? Trust me, I'm as frustrated as anyone.... But we just went into the tuffest gym in the country, and physically man-handled the hottest team in the country for 34 minutes, all while not playing near our peak... I know it's a big "if", but if our players can start knocking down some jumpers, and we chalk Craft's performance up as "flukishly bad" (and he deserves the benefit of the doubt), our team is gonna be damn tough to beat... Our perimeter d is suffocating, and Amir Williams at no point looked overmatched last night...
I know it sucks now, but with modest improvement in a few areas from last night, no one is gonna look forward to playing us..
+1 I've never been a fan of moral victories...but your words have resonance and I agree.
