Must enjoy getting dunked on. Has to be the softest big man in the country! Awful
"Whatever doesn't kill you...is gonna leave a scar." - MM
He's slow, he doesn't rebound, he doesn't play defense other than an occasional blocked shot. We're going to have to play some small ball this year to be effective. Ravenel is serviceable, but Amir is at this point a liability. He's still young and didn't play much last year, so he could get better.
I think he's doing ok. Last year he came in to eat up a few minutes and give a couple fouls. He will improve this year and be solid as a jr/sr.
he wouldn't let his players pose in the Playboy All-American magazine edition, he said, "Cause you can't play football with an erection."
That's what I meant to say, you just said it a little nicer haha
He had 8 rebounds in the first half what are you talking about?
He played a nice 1st half. 7 reb, 4 offensive. Again, dude rode the pine last year Trey McDonald style. He will improve
He is a tall lanky big man....generally those guys take time to develop. Not many come in thick and sturdy like Sully.
I laugh at you guys... Amir Williams is young. Perhaps because we are used to guys like Oden, Kufos and Sullinger we forget that some players need time to develop. Amir Williams has an extremely high ceiling, just you wait...
GUy has no coordination, Reminds me of Roy Hibbert his first couple of years in college. It will take him 4 more years to develop into a decent player. By then he will have exausted his eligibility at OSU. Matta should have red shirted him.
I must have been watching a different game. Thought Amir was much improved from last year. Tonight he changed shots, was a force on the glass, and got into the passing lanes to disrupt Duke's big men.
Certainly was not perfect, but he is far from the reason we lost. Thought he gave us great minutes.
Cleveland Orchestra Baby!! World's greatest!! The Brown's wet dream is to be them. The Ohio State University-Where the Illibuck Lives!
I thought both Ravenel and Williams played pretty well tonight to be honest.
We just forced up too many stupid shots imo.
Amir just needs to keep getting minutes to build his confidence.
i agree..he just played one of the best big men in NCAA. he will be fine as he continues to play and get experience.we'll need to be great shooters outside because we don't get much scoring inside..for now!!
everyone is coming down so hard on him because of the prep ranking and "expectations".....to be a McDonald's All American and what, 4 or 5 star Prep ranking, and also play against Sully day in and day out for two years and THIS is where he is? Not good folks.
I am sorry but if people are ok with him "eating up some good minutes" or grabbing 10 rebounds is ok then we are going to suffer long term.
He is ridiculously soft......sure, he grabbed some offensive rebounds but for F's sake he cannot finish around the basket!!!! Plus he is a HORRIBLE FT shooter....so in my mind that negates any offensive rebounding stats unless he is getting tip dunks.
Defensively he is so-so...he doesn't move his feet well and he has a low BBALL IQ. I said this in othe threads.....he was the reason DT picked up his second foul in the first half by going for a Plumlee 17 ft from the basket pump fake. really?? You prepare for teams and learn each players' weaknesses/strenghts. Scouting report: Plumlee is not a good perimeter shooter....keep him in front of you, push him away from the basket as much as possible and make him shoot over top of you. Amir should have realized that when Plumlee is standing 17 ft from the basket and when he pump fakes then keep your f'ng feet on the floor....
I would have to believe that over the past two years coaches are trying to work with him so he is either just not getting it, doesn't care that much, or will really just be a mediocre underachieving basketball player who did not reach his potential.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." - Aristotle (384-322 BC)
Amir came off the bench to put up:
10 rebounds, 4 pts, and 1 block. He also had zero turnovers. I would take that stat line from a backup center every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Give these young Buckeyes a chance...we were within 2 points of Duke on their home floor in the final minute of play.......probably the roughest enviornment in college basketball.....all of these young players of Matta's will improve.......letting Duke get 50 points in the 2nd half showed a breakdown on Defense of the whole team in the 2nd half...anyone connected wiht basketball knew a Duke "run" was coming in the 2nd half.....we just are too young to stop it fully......I believe by mid year you will see a much different Buckeye team, one that has grown in confidence and skills.....also by then Matta should know who are the guys in his "rotation"....one thing is for sure...someone besides Thomas needs to step up and start scoring.......that will fix itself as we go along...
