I so tired of the BigTen teams going after and hiring okay MAC school coaches! The only teams in the BigTen who can get away with this is OSU, Mich, NEB, PSU! Even the sorry SEC schools go after big name coaches who will brings bowls wins and 4 and 5 star athletes. Outside of paying players, the SEC has a formula for winning and attracting higher rated players than anyone for the past 10yrs.
Following your premise, Wisky, and Purdue should be going after Gene Chizik right? I mean his is a SEC coach that won a national championship. Should they go get him? He is an SEC winner after all!
Marque schools get big name coaches….same as in the SEC. The only Big 10 schools in that marquee category are OSU, TTUN, PSU and (arguably) Nebraska. The other schools do the best they can...same as any other conference. Wisky needs a power oriented coach. There aren’t too many of those kinds of power type high profile coaches out there. Face it, Alverez and Brett did a great job of coaching-up their talent. Wisky was nothing before them. All I have to say is God Speed Wisky…God Speed…
Charlie Strong is going to ask for more then what the b10 will be willing to pay even though they all make 24 million annually. Smh
Charlie Strong >>>>>>> Hazell but Hazell will come for cheap into the conference.
Agreed but it isn't just the head coach's pay that is a major selling point.....it's the money the school and athletic department is willing to pay the HCs staff of assistants. As we know the $EC pays assistants better than everyone (at least that's what we hear). If I remember right Meyer stipulated that a lot of money was going to be allocated for his assistants.
Wouldn't want to go after a mac coach. Look how badly it worked out for osu and mich with woody and bo. I am sure utah and florida regret hiring urban too.
I am less concerned with how well known the coach is. I just want someone that is qualified and capable.
Oh yeh, why did we ever pick a guy from youngstown state? What were we thinking?
Yeah like a I said the big boys of the conference can get away with hiring MAC coaches: OSU, that school up north, etc. But teams like Minn, ILL, or Indiana need to go after a more proven bigger named coach that will attract recruits. Although I believe coach Hazell was a good hire for Purdue. OSU has a proven track record, they could have hired Arkansas Pine-Bluff assistance coach and still would bring in 4 and 5 star athletes but if I Indiana were to do that then well they would still be winless in conf play and wouldnt get any 5 star recruits but if they get a bigger name-proven coach they would have atleast a better chance at landing better recruits and winning ball games....follow me?
Hazell would come cheaper because he is a newby untested in big conference play. But I do believe in his future as a HC. Im rooting for him every game except when they us of course!
I read somewhere a few days ago that Wisconsin was going to interview Peterson. They had better open up their checkbook if they ever want to become relevant. However, they'll probably hire someone from Montana or South Dakota.
I believe Strong's contract was renegoiated so HE'S NOT LEAVING. Mac coaches have a long history of producing great coaches fact Urban & Nick Saban started their success in the MAC. Almost every Big time coach with Ohio ties also has ties with the Mac. Now Cincy is becoming a hot bed of coaches.
