I know I'm going to get down voted off the planet for saying this, but I can't remember ever disagreeing with the experts (which I'm not) on a player this much. Everytime I see him I leave less than wowed. I know he looks great in shorts and a baseball hat at passing camps; but seems to be a disconnect somewhere when the shoulder pads and helmet come on. He reminds me of a less physical Christian Bryant in that he's perhaps just a step slow to play CB (though could at a high level; just not an elite one). Unlike Bryant, he doesn't seem to play angry and/or be a willing tackler. Just the fact that he's not a dominate player on the offensive side of the ball at the HS level is troubling. I hope I'm wrong on this one though...
Part of the problem is teams do not pass his way. But I watched him last night and he really did not get involved in many tackles or go to the ball of run plays.
Thompson is great. Conley is great. And Eli is great. If he is the weakest of the 4 that is still great.
He will develop
I think those are valid concerns, but remember, Ohio State has one of the best coaching staffs on the planet, in any sport at any level. Get him into the system, get him to buy into the system, and he's going to flourish. I'm not worried about his future, I think he'll be a good one.
