We learned once again yesterday that Charles Barkley is unprofessional, biased, and irrational. Several times now he has said that the Big Ten is "way overrated" despite the fact that the Big Ten had 6 Teams among the final 24 still playing in the NCAA and despite the fact that there are 4 Big Ten Teams among the final 16 Teams. He was so ridiculous that his Colleagues on CBS criticized him openly on the air. The last comment I heard from him was "I said the Big Ten has four outstanding teams." The only problem was that was, in fact, the first time he had said the Big Ten had any outstanding teams. And, that comment was contradictory to every other comment he has made over the past ten days about the Big Ten.
He continued to harp on the fact that, in his opinion, the Ref made a bad call on the ISU charge foul and that is the reason OSU won. But, he said nothing about the multitude of other marginal calls the Refs made in the same game including several calls against Craft and Scott which caused at least Scott to miss several minutes of playing time thus depriving us of one of our best defenders. Refs are not perfect. In the end, the marginal calls even out throughout a game. The Refs yesterday did a good job overall, but that did not fit in with Barkeley's bias against the Big Ten and OSU in particular. Very unprofessional Charles!
I know guys like Barkeley are there for entertainment and to offer their opinions. However, they still have an obligation to be professional and unbiased. Barkeley is not and will never be either. I will never watch his commentary again and I will switch channels whenever one of his ridiculous commercials is on air also.
This is what happens when you have a pro guy doing college games.
Ohio State Football:
6 Straight Big Ten Championships, 7 Straight Michigan Wins, 6 BCS Bowl Wins
He's trolling the B1G fans intentionally. I also liked how he did not mention the b.s. out of bounds call on Illinois last night where the Miami player clearly knocked it out of bounds. It was the worst call of the tournament so far, and Barkley didn't say a word about yet all he talked about was the Craft call after the OSU win. Then he threatened to punch Ernie Davis in the face for calling him out. You can tell Kenny Smith and Greg Anthony are sick of his shit. It was uncomfortable to watch his reaction to Ernie Davis' calling him out last night. He should just admit he made a stupid comment and move on.
I like watching that quartet of of Johnson, Smith, Anthony, and Big Charles.
They make many good observations about nuances in the game, and they get wound up over plays, teams, and calls....it is entertaining for me.
Barkley is IMO soooo much more knowledgeable about the game of BB than Mark May is regarding football. Charles has a sense of humor; May seems to have proven himself to be jackass.
Charles has a role to play. He can't change results and he was on an island with his persistent moaning and groaning about the call.
Don't watch half-time , pre-game, or post game...I flip it to another game or the BTN. I have had to mute 2-3 games in the tourney. Tim Brando sucks balls...there are a few others I cannot stand.
My uneducated guess is that Charles is salty because the BIG is costing him $$ in Vegas.
I agree he's been bad and especially bad if you are a big 10 fan. But he has no obligation to remain unbiased. He's charles Barkley the character not the person. They have him there for his quirkiness and lack of caring. Add in that it's not his fault they have pro guys doing college basketball. They couldn't have watched more than a handful of games all year due to their NBA responsibilities. I think he's horrible, but he is exactly what they want him to be.
+1. This is spot on. Only a loser complains about the officiating. I suspect the Chuckster lost some money on ISU/OSU.
Charles Barkley is there for entertainment purposes. People tune in to hear what he says. As many of you said, he's a pro analyst. He knows very little about the college game. Leave it at that.
Why do you care? You have fallen right into his trap.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
At the start he said the Big Ten was overrated and the Pac 12 was better. Since the games began he has been openly rooting for the Pac teams and against the B1G.
He wants to be right about what he said and now that it looks like he was wrong he is lying about what he originally said. He changed from the B1G having two good teams to four.
A bad call might have cost Illinois the game against Miami but he didn't say anything about that cuz he predicted Miami would win.
But Ohio State, who he has NEVER said one good thing about, wins and he blames it on a bad call.
The thing that really bothers me is that because he made such a big deal about that call on CBS it was picked up by other media around the country and they have put this dark cloud over what was a great basketball game and a great win for Ohio State.
Dan, my suggestion is give this up...we all know chunk is an idiot and I done watching him.....we saw his buds on tv basically say the same thing and the bigwigs at CBS also realize the number of viewers in the BIG region and how those comments are infuriating to us....I think he will be chastised but I really don't care anymore. Chunck is a moron we all know it so please, don't let this clown even take up your time or energy, he is not worth it. The best way we can handle this is just keep on winning baby....Go Bucks.
Exactly. CBS is getting what they want out of him and why he gets paid the big bucks. Exhibit A is a new Barkley thread started on Bucknuts every 2 seconds. Just like Mark May he knows how to make the puppets dance.
"Ohhhh, man I wish I could go back in time. I'd take state."
Yeah, this is what's pissing me off. Now all media everywhere is saying that ISU was jobbed by the refs, which is bullshit.
First of all, that was like .00005 inches from being on the line or not - I don't think it was a bad call. Was it incorrect by the letter of the law? Maybe...but it wasn't a bad call.
So this great game is now being overshadowed by Buckeye Hate. Oh well, nothing new I guess.
My your liqueur be cold, your women be hot, and all your problems slide off like snot.
Chuck is there to provide two things:
1. He has good insight to how the game is played because he is a former player.
2. He is the " comic relief" to lighten some of the tension.
His problem is that he cannot keep the two roles separate. Also, sometimes his opinions are so off-the-wall that you just have to laugh.
One final thought, put the disagreement about the offensive foul to rest by looking up the definition of "hover". Not that it matters now, but AC was set and took the charge. Good and proper call by the ref.
dittoe i would'nt put no one else in a class with mark may. I'm not that evil. GO BUCKS!!!!
I would add dumb to his list of accolades.
Add most likely drunk to your headline.
