Cowherd on why Meyer is the best coach in College Football
As big as a homer you may think I am, I have to disagree with that. As of this moment, it is
That said, when Ohio State is 26-0, National Champions, Urban will be on top, no doubt. Especially when we beat bama for the title.
We may have lost the battle......but not the war.
I agree here, but label it more
Don't agree with Fitzgerald...yet!
The bar at NW is still pretty low.
We're talking about coaching here. IMO, Meyer could improve the season records of any team in America over their current coach. Trade rosters between Meyer and Saban last year and predict how each team would have done. Would Meyer have lost to TA&M coaching Bama? Would Saban have taken OSU's 2012 roster and been 12-0?
I'd take my chances with Meyer. Saban loses an annual game with far superior talent than his competition. What would he have done with an OSU team that only had a couple of drafted players?
Chris Peterson...lol.. he leaves the Smurf Turf hes the second coming of Dan Hawkins...
Great points you've brought up. I agree with all of them. Once Meyer gets all of his players into the program, look out.
If we didn't have UFM I would want Fitzgerald. I think he is the real deal.
I think Meyer is the better coach. As good as Meyer is at recruiting, he's probably #2 to Saban in that department right now. Saban is currently the recruiting/coaching combination.
As far as developing talent, it's hard to say. Saban has the huge advantage of oversigning, so he doesn't have to be as efficient in developing talent. I'd say in-game coaching, recruiting, and developing talent are the three biggest things that make a college football coach great.
I think you have to define what you mean by 'best coach' before discussing it. Best in game coach? Best at developing players? Best at recruiting? Best at the combination of the three? Then you get into lesser things that are also important - PR, being an 'ambassador' for the university, continuity, etc.
Cowherds right, nicks it now. Never won at mich state, 5 loss season at lsu. Urban wins right now!
Saban is the best given the right circumstances are in place.
Could Saban have led Utah to an undefeated season and BCS bowl win with the inherent restrictions at a place like Utah?
I was thinking the same.............
SOTY right here.
But Meyer is coming and I'd rather have Meyer.
Saban, like Belicheck, I respect very much but I really don't like how they carry themselves.
Well stated, hard to lump all coaching points and qualitys into one broad statement.
For this discussion I will define it as taking the players in front of you and coaching them to their best abilities - with the hand you are dealt. Does anyone believe Saban could motivate a roster filled with 3 stars better than Meyer could? Meyer has dramatically turned around every program he has inherited.
Meyer wins, hands down.....
The thing with Meyer is that he's won everywhere he's been while playing by the rules, even in the almighty SEC.
Saban didn't reach god tier status until he was able to oversign and pay players while at Bama.
Imagine the damage Urban could of done if he was paying players and actually oversigning at Florida.
The Father, The Son... well, it's the
The Holy Trinity... as I see it.
Saban's offense is not as prolific.
He just recruits the biggest Oline and fastest defense.
Definitely a winning formula, but Meyer has schematic advantage.
I agree. Take it one step further.
Put Meyer at Alabama with over-signing capabilities and he doesn't lose a game in ten years.
Hating scUM since 1964
Who knows.. Nick Saban is approaching Bear Bryant status at Alabama...And Saban, Meyer and Carroll are part of the the "Earle Bruce" coaching tree..

Woody and Archie.................................. Alex being Alex, ....................................and Woody at Dennison
exactly. Saban is darth Vvadar with an army of cheaters helping him dominate. Let's see how he would've done with a regular team and staff. of that's right we did and he was barely over .500 at sparty. Sparty at least should be a consistent 8 win team and yet he couldn't even do that.
plus Earle Bruce fired his ass...
I don't know Matt, I thought urban was the better coach before Sabans natties and I still think so today. Just my opinion
Cowherd stated that Urban has won quickly at each of his stops. Every school improved big time under his leadership. Whereas Saban spent 7 years at Michigan State and what did he win? This was a major factor in Colin's thought process. Something to think about when understanding how he came to the conclusion that Urban is the best coach in college football.
Meyer. Also, he's younger so he has more time to do it as long as he stays healthy.
