My wife and I noticed it after the game live, and then as we re-watched the contest, it is almost laughable to see Tom Crean literlary "run" by Matta not slowing down as he almost extended his hand to Matta.....come on Tom, you just got your fanny kicked at home by a class program and class coach, show some graciousness and class.....not time to grab Matta's hand in a manly handshake, grasp his arm and shoulder and tell him what a great game his guys played, and how they did such a good job, and sure beat us fair and square in a "homer infested Valentine" refree frenzied game? No time to say "good luck" in the tournments? No time to exchange greetings and coach to coach "speak"?.
I think Crean went into this game thinking it was a "gimme"...they had beaten a "hapless" Buckeye team on their floor and scored 81 points.....OSU was not respected, not thought to
put up much of a fight, on this "our Senior Night" in our beloved Assembly Hall filled wiht crazed Hoosier fans and 3 refrees in their hind pocket!
2 hours later as Crean looked out and saw our Buckeyes taking his beloved squad apart like a cheap erector set, and Scott and Craft "having their way" with their POY candiate and his 7 footer, and after tryng to change the game with false flops ,, smoke and mirrors , he knew his goose was cooked..and just could not have the common grace to be a geltleman about it.
Lets face it the TV guys, ESPN commentators, all were stunned at the results and left searching for words at the end of the contest....the ESPN guys at half time could not praise the Buckeyes but could only say.".look real BIG 2nd halfs from Olideopo(?) and the big Indiana center Zeller." Ops that didn't happen......ha ha.....

I agree that the blow-by hand shake was a tad classless and I enjoyed seeing him so pissed!!! I don't agree with his flop teaching tactics either.....poor
However, I do not think he nor his staff felt like this was a gimmie. I respect Crean as a Coach. I think he is actually a GOOD coach and is a good fit for IU. I am sure they prepared their team to the best of their ability and tried to stress the importance of the game and to be prepared for a much better Buckeye team. Similar to what I am sure Matta tried to do when we traveled to Wisky, NW, etc etc.
As i am sure you know, what Coaches tell these kids and what ends up resonating and sinking in sometimes are two entirely different things. I think the IU players felt like they had this one in the bag and when we took it to them they were shocked. Even after that I would be the IU players thought, ok, we got these coming out of halftime. When we weathered that first storm and stuck with them it had to be somewhat demoralizing for them.
I also think we as Buckeye fans are just as surprised as everyone else that we actually pulled this off. I thought we could win but i certainly did nto give us a great chance given the circumstances.
This B1G Tourney is going to be freaking INTENSE and fun to watch!!!!
good post bcroft...yes I might have stated the "gimme" wrong.....i did mean the whole Indiana team..not just Crean thinking that......I, as a former coach have had a lot of that.....especially when you have return game visits where you have won handily the first time.....I am sure he was wary of the Buckeyes in this return match, but maybe not to the level of not thinking that the confines of Assembly hall, Senior night, and friendly ref calls would leave him in the learch as it did!

Crean is a tool... Indiana is a very, very good team, show respect and shake Matta's hand... because you just got your ass kicked by the Buckeyes and our defense!
Eh, it's all good. I get what you are saying. Internally Crean was probably feeling pretty confident, he just wouldn't portray that to his team.
But still, as a former coach you know, the players have to drink the koolaid you are serviing. I played hoops through college and it is mentally tough to move past what you did to a team previously and to push down any warm and fuzzy feelings you have going into a particular game. It is all easier said than done, I am just glad we did the ass whooping and not the other way around!!!!
