I think it is safe to start talking about this now. This is not a bash Fickell thread, but an honest assessment of the situation. I also believe we swap the co-dc thing and hire a true DC, true LB coach and a safety coach. The Co-DC worked for Urban at Florida, but it is not working now.
The money should be about equal for the swap. If the change is going to be made, you need to start adjusting the recruiting responsibilities now.
My top pick is Mike Stoops
I do not want Pelini. His defense often shows the same defeated attitude we saw last night.
Forget Greg Mattison. He will never come here.
For the money we are paying Fickell. The sky is the limit.
I would take Bo. He made all the in game adjustments to take away our strengths in the title game. Does anyone know what Withers' aspirations are? When he was hired on, he was DC and Luke was only Asst HC. Don't knowshy it changed, or how that affected Withers
You are basically swapping 2 coaches for 3, so I imagine the budget would be the same.
Meyer and Pelini on the same sideline would be ALOT of ego.
Also am not a fan of his 2 gap system at this level and I do not know what kind of recruiter he is.
Watch Fickell end up on The MSU staff in some capacity (after the season).

Why is everyone talking about Bo as our future DC when we just hung 63 points on them last week. Doesn't make sense to me. We need to recruit some much need linebackers and safeties.
i hate that people say that bo won a NC as a DC and was a badass DC everywhere hes been. Look big time recruits are not going to nebraska with our talent we should dominate them. On top of all that bo is the HC not DC at nebraska, just bc hes not a very good HC doesnt mean he isnt a productive DC. id love the move i think you pay him 1 million a year and let him do his thing and do away with "co" coordinators
So your top pick is the guy that snubbed us last offseason to go coach with his brother.
Obviously nothing faulty with that logic.
Did I really see Manny Diaz mentioned, lol.
he snubbed us bc urban wanted him to be a "co" coordinator instead of just the DC. im sure we offered more $$$ than choklahoma
Kirby Smart..Never happen but we can pray! I remember Bama fans calling for his head after his first year and now he is worshiped like the messiah!

I'm not sure what the right move is here, but I will say this. There is a pretty logical argument to stay the course.
Here's why... 1. Our defensive back 7 have been the walking wounded all year. It was clear last night. That has to be taken into consideration. 2. We have to give a new staff at least through year two to adjust and make things work together. It is really hard to have success without some continuity. Remember, while guys like Fick and Vrabel were carry overs, there is still a new dynamic that is getting worked out for the group. 3. There are a lot of defensive playmakers at LB and DB in the 2013 class. While the 2012 class killed on the DL, the rest of the defensive recruits were clearly not ready or up to snuff. Keep the coaches in place, show the recruits they can come and play right now, and let the turnover happen on the field.
Like I said, not sure this is the right non-move so to say, but that is the argument for standing our ground and not shaking up the staff.

Some things definitely have to change. Something's I have not seen talked about is the fact that Urban moved Boren to LB he obviously sees the need at that spot can't put that on Fick. Then you say well he hasn't developed the talent there? But he can develop a guy who hasn't played there in four years in a matter of 72 hrs and our top tackler? Just some thoughts
