    There's a right way to handle things.
    You want to fire someone, you look them in the eye and tell them they screwed up , and there's the door.

    That's not something I thought he would/should delegate.
    That's my opinion, and I'm stickin to it.coffee

    Thank goodness your opinion and what "Tressel would have done" doesn't matter anymore.

    Especially what "Tressel would have done."I'm so happy it doesn't matter anymore because we seen the results of tressel disicipline and quite frankly we seen how Tressel performs vs a guy like Urban on the field as well.

    Personally it doesn't matter who told him he was outta here. Meyer didn't know him like that and even if he did, Clarke screwed up.

  • The only way, that Urban is going to be able to offer the amount of schollarships that LSU, Bama and Arkansas can offer is to kick off kids that do stupid things. Urban Meyer pretty much said, do it right or get out. Kids have to learn what consequenses are...having a pellet gun in public or DUI are two such things that are not small things. Do it right, or don't do it. Believe me, I think Tressel walks on water, but he is not in charge any more. New sherriff, new rules.

  • Thank you for your opinion alpha. I'll carry it as far as you carried mine.

  • In my opinion... Meyer was a prison guard down in Florida . The lunatics were running the assylum! He had what in Florida ? 30 sum arrests....urban isn't effin around! I don't blame him one bit... Screw the face to face.. Bye bye n grow up.

    I don't care if he was notified by carrier pigeon. Meyer owes him nothing. The kid declared immediately and quite clearly, by his actions, he doesn't want to be a part of this team. Meyer doesn't know him and Meyer doesn't have any sort of relationship with him. For all we know, Meyer might have felt it would be better coming from Fickell. But for all I care he could have gotten a pink slip in his locker with a note telling him to pack his bags.

    Gessig, Thanks for the info, I 'm inclined to agree w/you. I really don't think (or want to think) that Urb would handle things this way. Real bad pub, you know what I mean. How in the world can you recruit the best, then dismiss the guys who F up without even a face to face ? It just doesn't make sense. I'm sure it will all come out in the end.

    Wasn't the face to face the day after the Gator Bowl? How many Face to Face does a kid need to understand things must change?? I think this will help the player in the long run just knowing there is accountability and 2nd chances are just that.
    I have no problem with holding these young men accountable. Clarke knows why, he does not need UM to tell him again..Face to Face
    just sayin

    What can you expect the day after having the law laid down ? Timing, as they say, is everything. Tress might have given another chance. Those extra chances, cost Tress dearly, IMHO

    It's not your honest opinion; it's a fact. The kid fucked up dearly and is paying the price. Nonetheless the very day after the team meeting.

    Tressel is not here anymore folks. Tressel laid his own death bed here with too much loyalty and 2nd chances. That's the fault that led to ruination. Tressel is a good man, but his lack of discipline cost him.

    We have a new coach; new rules. Forget the past; live in the present. Whether Meyer talked face-to-face to Clarke matters not. His actions speak louder than words; he proved he didn't want to be here a day after being told the law under a new regime.

    And I shall rejoice in victory for another 365 days over That School Up North.

  • Clarke is right. Tress probably would not have kicked him off the team. He probably would have given him another chance. Tressel was a forgiving guy (almost to a fault), and while in many ways I love that about him..if Tressel would have laid down the law and been a bit more strict on these young men, he would probably still have his job right now.

    The fact is, when these young men get a privilege like receiving a scholarship to play football at tOSU, it is up to them to keep up their end of the deal. Unfortunately, Dominic made some pretty big mistakes at very bad times; both when his team is under intense scrutiny, and when should have been trying his best to make a good impression on his new head coach. If this would have happened a year or two into Meyer's tenure, after he had got to know Clarke, maybe things turn out differently. We will never know. If you want to make the correlation to a work-place environment, most employees would be trying their best to give a good impression to their new boss.

    I'm not going to get any more in depth into how it was handled by Coach Meyer, because I don't know all the details. I am in no way condemning or judging the young man either. Clarke, like all of us is human. We make mistakes, and all that he can do now is try and learn from this and be a stronger human being because of it. An athlete like him will no doubt get other chances to play football and receive an education, if he works hard and keeps his head on straight. I know I will be rooting for him in his next stage; once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye.

    And that's all I have to say about that.

  • At the end of the day it does not matter what Tress "would have done". Urban Meyere is his own coach and he has his own way of dealing with things. I am sure he made that very clear in his 7am meeting after the Gator Bowl.

    Clarke basically showed Meyer and his teammates his utter lack of respect for what is going on by actling like a fool not once but twice!! Getting a DUI AFTER the 7am speech especially after you were already in trouble is unacceptable.

    Our program cannot afford any F-ups from anyone while we are on probation so get on the bus or get the fuck off and play someplace else.

    If I am a player on that team I would be doing everything possible to keep my nose clean and make a good impression because Clarke has talent and had a tremendous opportunity and he screwed it up.

    CEO's delegate...in this case he's got bigger issues to invest his time on.

    Exactly! Geesh,,,,,,,, thank you.

  • The President of a company doesn't fire people. His managers and general managers do that for him. DC made a grievous mistake (DUI underage) the day after the ground rules were layed out. Basically he had an epic failure, and he needs to own it. Meyer didn't do anything wrong. It's his ship, and he decides how it is steered.

    After everything we've been through, its hard to have sympathy for anyone who broke the rules and publicly embarrassed the program twice within a matter of months.

    Clarke is still a kid. I don't think he's a bad kid. But he certainly has lost the right to have a scholarship to play football at OSU. If anything, it sounds like he needed some tough love. Tough love is exactly what he is getting. Whether it angers him or not, he will gain more from this than he wold from having a sit down.

    Also, does he deserve a sit down? Has he earned one? To be treated like an adult you have to act one. His tweets demonstrate someone who is still a child and stll believes he should get away with it or at least have an opportunity to state your case. But in the real world, people don't care. Nobody owes you anything.

    Good luck Clarke. I hope you eventually learn from this episode.

  • The OSU football program is on probation and can not afford any slips ups for the next 5 years. There are no gray areas any longer, and I am sure that is what Urban layed out on his first day. Unfortuantley for Clark, he was the first to test the new rules. The last time the head coach overlook the rules to keep the program competitive, we paid dearly. Those days are gone. Hate to see him go. He is a great student athlete and still has a chance to show his abilities elsewhere. Believe me there are a dozen coahces out there ready to contact him to transfer. Good luck Mr Clark.

  • Well guys this is one of the major changed and diffedences between urban and tressel. Urban was more of a redeemer and he likely wouldn't have kicked him off the team.

  • IMHO...& this may or may not be a repeat of others opinions BUT...I assumed that Meyer had at the very least sat down with these 2 YOUNG men & discussed things prior to dismissing them from the team. By becoming judge & jury - it does not bid well for him in how he takes care of tOSU players///the backbone of the program. Just because they were not "his" players makes little difference. No doubt that punishments were deserved. To kick them to the curb is far more then harsh though. I have always had a very high opinion of Urban Meyer so please dont mistake this as a Meyer bashing. And I hate to sound like an arm chair QB BUT we are talking about the lives of 2 young men who may now be forever scared all because of a rush to judgement. I would have thought Meyer to have thought this through a lot more then it is APPEARING
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    please allow me to add this :
    there are all kinds of possible extenuating circumstances :
    in my experiences in life...there are over-zealous police officers who take pleasure in harassing kids,jocks ect...from what i read Clarke didnt even register above the legal limit but was still charged with OVI??
    & as far as Gramble's case...how many times have we all seen a g/f who has over-exaggerated the whole situation & cried "abuse" when the reality was there was nothing close to it??
    I just think it was a rush to judgement & they deserved the legal systems due process to have been played out prior to any punishments handed down.
    Issues like this is why we have a bowl ban next year. Players thinking they are above the rules. He shot a bb gun........who even has a bb gun in college. Then he gets a DUI less then 9 months later. Sounds like he needs to grow up. I wouldn't have talked to him either. Why would Urban waste his time? Obviously this kid doesn't get it. I for one think we spend to much time in this country helping those who aren't willing to help themselves. So if he wants to be an idiot then let him go. Urban can now spend time with players and kids that want to be there and are doing the right things.
    Sorry for the rant but I am tired of hearing how these guys get slighted. We should all take a note from Urban and stop posting about these stories and concentrate on the players that are doing things right.
    Pretty sure Meyer looked him in the eyes and said "Don't fuck up again" and he did. So who really disrespected who? Clarke deserves to be let go, bring in the guys that want to be here and respect the team.
    Also, I'm cool with reading kids' tweets and all, but quit stalking their convos to other people, thats creepy.
    My Dear old Dad always said that "there are 3 sides to a story, your side, my side, and the truth". We may never know all of the "behind the scenes" info, but then again, we may find out more info later. In any case, 2 more are gone, making room for 2 more. Best of luck to all, I say.
