You and I talked a bit about this last year. I said I wasn't ready to say he is not a good d coordinator. Well I'm leaning closer to your side. Have not liked what I have seen thus far. Hopefully the difference between Meyer and tress will be that Meyer tells him sternly to step it up ASAP. Ridiculous to see hank at DE. Fick and Withers have both been said to be good recruiters maybe that had a lot more to do with the hire than we thought.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
And I shall rejoice in victory for another 365 days over That School Up North.
I agree, Luke is and was a great buckeye, but I have not seen anything that leads me to believe that he can coach at the level of TOSU at this point. I am not sure that UFM is sold on Mr. Vrabel either Urban was chewing both Luke and Vrabs rear ends on the sideline Sat. My guess is that Luke has some value as a recruiter, and will stay on board, but I would suspect that Withers transitions as the head defensive coordinator sooner rather than later.
What is the basis of Withers transition,, just curious?
Maybe Urban brings back Teryl Austin as his defensive coordinator. what ya think?

Just speculation on my part. Urban brought him in to be co defensive coordinator when Luke was already here. In my opinion he kept Luke on to see him in action first hand and to do the "right thing". If Luke was not the head coach or even on the staff last year does anyone think that he would have a spot on this coaching staff? In my opinion no....but just my opinion.
Didn't I see Spence get beat in the pass coverage?
Don't Spence and Miller play the same position? How do we see them more?
The reason you see Hank at defensive end is because the defense doesn't play a "traditional" weak side end...
they like to play him in a 4 technique and use him to crush the B gap so the linebackers can run free...
The basic concepts of the front are the same from the past few seasons...say 2008 as a starting point...
The coverage concepts are new...but the front...pretty much the same...
Regardless where he lines up he needs to bring his big ass with him because outside of two plays he has been a non-factor...
Big factor that no-one is talking about is Bellamy quitting...kid could ball more than anyone realized...and having him back would have made the puzzle pieces fit much easier...
How can you crush the gap when you cannot get off of the ball fast enough. All of the DL look super slow out of the gate. The OL already have their feet positioned to shield from the play.
1st and 2nd year he was a DT and he came up big when we were expecting Heyward to be a beast. Heyward mostly had a down year and Simon gave us a new player to watch and get excited about. He was always in the backfield causing trouble. I agree he wasnt all world but he sure made a name for himself is all I was saying. I agree with what Duane was saying about Big Hank and him playing DE. i am wondering what they were thinking with that. I just feel that we should be a lot better right now. All that speed with the LBs and they see to be lost at times. Our Safeties seem to take bad angles this year and last, and finally our missed tackles have killed us. My only hope is what others have said and we are holding back blitz packages and schemes for better teams. Sooner or later we have to just trust our players and let them show their talent. We have to be an attacking defense that dictates what the other team does not the opposite. I would have attacked more in these first 2 games to at least figure out some things and know what we can do. Playing soft prevent defenses allows us to win against MAC teams but kills us against national teams like USC.
If they can't look at the WEALTH of talent on the D line and figure out where to play them so that they will be successful.... they shouldn't be coaching them!
I'm hoping Urban doesn't let this crap go on too long.

Here's the problem. That was a veteran defense that had players at every position. LEO is a key position to not have experience.
One thing we MUST stop is playing guys out of position. It never worked when Heacock was here. Don't take a strength (e.g., Simon at SSDE) and make it a weakness (Simon at LEO).
