No more hating on Fickell and Withers!! Y'all need to back off after this past Saturday's performance in East Lansing, MI!
No more overreacting to 1 or 2 games.
michigan state offense has been far from impressive this season. They struggled to score last week vs a directional school and their wide receivers had plenty of drops.
I will lay off Fickell once a more skilled offense is shut down. Shutting down msu with a garbage quarterback and average wide outs have been done before.
Plus I don't like that their QB looked 20x better vs OSU then he has against any other school.

Of course the Urban man lovers will be saying the usual, Urban forced him to change. Fickell had a plan and it is working. Worked on variation of defenses early in the season and when it counts brought the full barrel, love it.
Williams at MLB on occasion, brilliant. Mixing up blitzes and most important not letting the running game beat you. Fickell forced MSU to beat them passing and Maxwell had a career game, ok so what. Unless the OSU offense blows the game this is a win.
As John Cooper used to say "win the surest way".
The Fickell "overreacting" was based on 4 sub par defensive performances against suspect competition, not 1 or 2 games. The only "overreacting" to 1-2 games is the guys who are acting like the defensive staff is above reproach because we shut down a very good back supported by an awful QB. Let's put together a string of these performances before we start ten more threads about Fickell being great.
easy big man it was one game after we played like shit in two vs lesser competiton. stopping michigan state isnt that great of an accomplishment they arent a very good offensisve team. i will give the D and coaches credit tho teamm looked much better on that side. however, this weekend will be an entirely different animal to stop. nebraska is way more explosive and will force us to tackle 1 on 1 in space. in my opinion i think this will be our toughest game of the year
I somewhat agree. I have never been a fickell hater and want him to succeed, but so far it has been 4 bad games to 1 good game. Furthermore, fickell finally did what a lot of "haters" had been complaining about. He was much more aggressive and played more man press coverage. Hopefully it continues

You do make some good points..However, MAYBE UFM goosed some asses here?? JMO
Maxwell only completed 50% of his passes. 8 of his completions were swing passes or screens to Bell. Hardly a great day by him.
How many drops did his wideouts have?
Those drops were caused by defenders most times. Well timed hits and getting hands on the pass. He threw the ball 42 times! He is going to have some decent completions. But overall the defensive backs played tight coverage and were getting to the receiver when the ball did.
Isn't it as absurd to base everything positive on one game as it is to base everything negative on the first few?
One out of 5 ain't bad. Isn't that a song?
Hell there was a fire Fickell thread after the first game, so why not a positive one now? It was to be expected. But it doesn't matter who the coach is, offense, defense or special teams.... we will always have the fans who find faults in the coaching at first sign of imperfection and we will always have the fans that will defend a coach no matter what.
When we look at this team through 5 games it is obvious lots of improvement is needed in all aspects. The defensive staff needs to work together to iron out their issues, it looked much much better this week. The offense is a little behind where they should be, but again coach on that side of the ball will get it worked out. New staff, new schemes, new coaching styles all need time to gel together, just like the players on the field. In 5 games of a new era, it would be very difficult to point out one coach and say they are the reason for poor play.
I know. It is a message board so we are going to get both threads, but the polarization and superlatives that we use is always humorous to me. Week by week it seems we have most posts on everything perfect or totally flawed with one unit or another.
At 4-0 I tend to think that the positive ones are not as bad anyway.
Ha.... Yes, you should not overreact to 1 GAME. MSU offense is really weak. We played lousy D against 4 sub par team... You might want to look in the overreaction mirror lol. Lets see how we fare against Neb.
I would have waited until after this coming weekend before posting the above.
I hope you aren't overreacting to one good game.
I'll agree %100 with what alpha said
How ironic, isn't that exactly what you're doing? Reacting to one game and then telling people not to do it?
