Although I believe grading on NFL potential can be counter intuitive to determining a classes true impact on a college teams success, it does provide a clear black and white number to create differences between recruits (32 "5 stars" for the first round, XX "4 stars" for a certain number of rounds etc). Many of you stated the ratings should be based upon projections at the college level, but how would you suggest defining what a "5 star" recruit is projected to do at the college level? Does he get a certain number of stars for getting offers to BCS schools? Is it based upon when he would be projected to start on the field? Is it based upon projection to an All-American Team? Winning awards? My point being it is very difficult to come up with a black and white clear cut off point projecting at the college level.
I wish I remembered where I saw this, but a few years ago one of the sites had a explanation on their points. I don't remember the exacts, but it was along the lines of a 90+ rating would equal a recruit who would see extensive playing time as a freshman and a for sure NFL draft pick, 80-89 is a multi year starter...and so on.
This has got to be the DUMBEST idea I've heard of. Who gives a damn about where they are projected in the NFL draft. Hey 247....Heres a secret I will let you in on......THEY HAVEN'T PLAY A DAMN DOWN OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL YET!!!!!!! Rank the kids for college football. Exactly why I pay no attention to your rankings. Your rankings may not match other sites based on opinion of a player, I got that, but this is soooooooooooo stupid
+1, Can't state any better....That's a Bullshit reason for 5 stars....as subjective of a process as it is in the first place..

I think that they should try to keep it in proportion. There are what 117 Div I college football programs. Lets say that all the first round pics are from D-I picks. I know there might have been one or two that were first round picks not from D-I schools but those will be our outliers...So if you get 32 first round picks from 117 colleges figure out how many Big schools there are for each state and keep the same proportion since there are so many more high schools then Div-I Colleges...Then you can keep the same averages per draft...
Ever get the feeling that this disclaimer was written specifically for our fan base?
No because every other fan base will think their criteria is stupid.
