I was listening to Glen today on a radio show in Minnesota. The guy is great to listen to. First off, man did Earl Bruce have a great bunch of coaches come through his staff. Mason said that Saban was the best talent evaluator he had ever been around in all his years of football, said he isn't surprised by BAMA's success because Saban is a recruiting genius.
On the SEC - he said they just are smarter than all the other conferences. He said that their scheduling is genius compared to the BIG and the rest of the country. First off - they play really nobody who can beat them out of conference. He used BAMA as his example they played 3 cupcakes, not even D1 schools and Michigan.
But the real genius is in how they schedule them (the cupcakes). IF the SEC plays a good non-rivalry team it's right off the bat, first game of the year where they are fresh and have 9 months prep (LSU vs. Oregon, Georgia vs. Boise, BAMA vs. Michigan). Then they schedule there cupcakes within their SEC schedule, not right at the beginning of the year like other conferences, basically giving them weeks off to stay healthy during the mist of the SEC schedule. So well other conferences have been playing 8 weeks of tough conference games in a row, the SEC has been playing 2 weeks on, one week off the entire season. Why doesn't any other conference do this?
Our schedule is broken into 3 sections quite nicely next year.
he wouldn't let his players pose in the Playboy All-American magazine edition, he said, "Cause you can't play football with an erection."
Wisest thing to ever come out of Glen Mason's mouth. There is a reason he was passed up for the OSU job...
If what Jay Paterno wrote is true (make sense to me), then Urb may have to tweak his no huddle approach.

lol very true..but our conference is soo tough..
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
When did Jay Paterno's opinion become valuable?
The year before never
Seems like we have been playing a cupcake in our last regular season game for about the last decade.
What freakin great insight about how they schedule cupcakes!!!!! OMG did you break some big news!!!
Quit your day job and become an investigative reporter right away!!! And somebody get Urban on the phone!! Does he know about this double top secret plan to dominate college football?????

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
The thing that makes SEC out of conference scheduling possible is the fact that every team in the conference is guaranteed to play at least one and in most cases two to three top 10 teams per season. They don't even have to leave their conference or region to get these upper echelon teams on their schedules while every other AQ conference does. This also prepares them for tough bowl matchups.
Do you wake up every day and say to yourself "how can I be an asshole today?"
Those teams are top 10 teams because they play absolutely no one. Really think that Ole Miss is a top 10 team? They have figured out the BCS formula. Have all your teams ranked high at the beginning of the year. That way when you lose to one, you won't fall very far.
Bama plays VTech in non-conference next year...they played UM this year. Who didOSU play out of conference? UM was considered one of tOSU's toughest games...Bama could have went into victory formation 5 minutes into the game. Yes, I know it's not OSU's fault that California sucks and they've scheduled tough OOC games.
These threads are getting old. We all hate the SEC yet we try to bash them to make ourselves feel good. They point to the scoreboard and 7 national titles in a row and we still try to come up with reasons why they're not as good as they think.
So Bama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, now A&M and whomever else from that conference(Auburn '10) that may make an appearance in the top 10 over the past half decade or so are perenially ranked that highly because they play nobody? Really? Then why do they tend to stay that highly ranked throughout the season, for the same reason?
I mean it could be that they start out so highly ranked because the conference has won 7 in a row, they keep largely beating the hell out of OOC teams in regular season and bowl games and out recruiting everybody every year. Just a thought but hell, what do I know? Could very well be because of all that oversigning and soft scheduling also, nothing to do with having more talent(sarcasm).
Well first of all teams have to be available to schedule. So if everyone is starting the 4 non-conference games to open the season If harder to get a team to play a non conference game like in week 8 or 10. The MIdwest team load up wait the MAC conference since it spreads out basically the same states as the B1G. The Mac tends to play their OOC games the first 4 weeks also so getting a Ball State in the 10th week would be hard. The Southern schools don't like to play out of the region and their are less D1 schools to play in the south. The SEC loads up on the Louisiana schools, the FIU and FAU, West Carolinas and the lower division Florida A&M and Bethune Cookman which compare to the Youngstown State and Northern Iowa schools schedule by the B1G.
Living in Florida I CAN see more OSU games locally on TV per year then I do Florida Gators games. The reason why is OSU doesn't do Pay Per View games. . The Florida/Florids State/Miami versus the Florida A&M's or Western Carolina are PPV. I was at Buffalo Wings in Orlando last year with the OSU Alumni and a woman asked to see the Gator game. The bartender said BBW didn't purchase the game because they would lose money. The ladt walked away mad but she could have purchased the game at home for maybe 50. The BBW also didn't get one of the big Vegas fights because OSU was playing a night game and didn't want conflicting crowds when the event were on at the same time.
Also West Virginia this year and I believe next year had to drop FSU for their schedule so they could manipulate the schedule to get all their confererence games in. WVU was eligible this year for the B12 champiosnhip. Most schools have a few years to work their conference games in. Rutgers amay Maryland will have to have creative scheduling when they join the B1G if they have future contracts to play games with Non-B1G teams.

What you use Ole Miss an the example? This post makes no sense. SEC is the best conference in Football, that's not debatable. They are playing 2-3 top 10 teams every year in conference. Then look when they play OOC. They win. Maybe it's other teams not wanting to schedule them. I have no problem with them scheduling the cup cakes OCC, we do the same thing.
