First...How hard would it be for Urban to persuade his old pal Chuck Heater to leave Temple to take the D Coord job here? My guess is not hard at all.
I like Luke, he is a Buckeye, and he probably knows more about defense than I will ever know. I will never go on here and rag on a coach or a player but I think there is something going on more with the D than anyone of us will ever know.
Apparently it is a lot more cerebral than physical. That is the only thing I can think of because when you look at our recruit tapes they jump off the screen at you.
Unfortunately, with facing spread offenses, you can't have the old Chris Spielman "See Ball Get Ball" approach. You have got to know what you are doing out there.
I am worried about next year because if our Defense (Linebackers) doesn't grasp our scheme better by then, we are not going to have any chance to win any kind of championship.
Just my thoughts, down vote away.
I think this week we look better. (Granted, we can't look much worse--Haha!)
IIRC, Oregon held the ball for 17 minutes when we played them in the Rose Bowl, and they were terrific as the spread. I don't agree that "see ball, get ball" doesn't work. I do think that "keep everything in front of you, make them take 10-12 plays to complete a scoring drive, and bet that they'll make a mistake before they get to play 10" doesn't work. Hell, I thought we learned that against Florida in the debacle in the desert. Urban should know that as well as Fick.
First of all my first choice is pelini my second probably would be heater
Second people need to stop with the "oh back in the rose bowl we did......" That was in 2009 it's 2012 now people and this D is the worst in history statisticly so STOP with the 09 rose bowl talk u look stupid. A change in coordinator has to happen at the end of the year
I guess so, but lets be honest. If LeGarret Blount doesn't fumble that ball the whole complexion of that game is changed and we probably don't win.
I wonder what changes were made to the Defense because it isn't the same as last year. I am tired of hearing about kids not knowing it, for some, it has been 2 to 3 years. How bad do you want to play? I can't remember the last time someone was a starter and then suddenly wasn't.
Shazier got on the field almost immediately, how hard is it for him to take the frosh and say do this, this and this and you will play.
IF Fick leaves (which I am for that) we wont have a opening a D cord... we will have an opening at LB (or DL, I always mix up which he is)
Unless Urb goes and gets Mattison from TTUN, I think we need to get another young guy like Vrb. who has been there and done that and will go out on the recruiting trail and bring in some elite players.
