would you care? Especially if it led to a national title...or 3. I personally would not and refuse to EVER get self-righteous when it comes to big time college football.

Well, we would have to immediately shut up about TAMU and Bama
good call, im against it. we need something to bitch and moan about around here during the off season.
I'd probably wait until we are off NCAA probation to start doing it.
I would have no problem with it. If a kid is on academic scholarship and not carrying a certain gpa they take away the scholarship. Well if you are not performing up to par aka being a contributor on gameday why should you keep your scholly.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
Oversigning hurts our kids that grew up wanting to be buckeyes. You obviously come from out of state because no true buckeye would hurt our kids for anything!

If we started oversigning ESPN would immediately do a special on "the disgusting B1G programs who take advantage of oversigning".

If kids start to feel like they get their scholarship yanked if they don't start after two years, it will create more parity in college football. Now, it doesn't get a ton of media attention, and it only happens excessively with 5-10 programs, so most kids don't really know much about it. If oversigning starts to get widespread, kids would start to re-think whether they want to sit the bench for two years, get their scholarship yanked, and have to transfer.
To be honest, this is the first year I've heard commits shy away from a school because they're oversigning - and that's Texas A&M. I saw one commit say on twitter he wasn't sure he wanted to take his visit because of the number of commits A&M already has.
I'd prefer that the NCAA make a universal rule that limits schools to taking 3 commits more than they have scholarships opening up. It allows for natural attrition, but it doesn't force large number of kids to lose their scholarship.
That didn't stop Alabama and most of the SEC schools.
that comparison doesn't work.
Oversigning assumes that kids won't hold up their end of the bargain. If you bring in 100 kids to camp and have 85 scholarships, even if every kid does what they promised they'd do, 15 still have to get cut.
With academic scholarships, if a kid does what he promised to do (maintain a certain academic standard) he won't lose his scholarship. I have no problem pulling scholarships for kids who test positive for drugs, who fail academically, or get into legal trouble. Those kids didn't hold their end of the bargain. But a kid who does all the right things? He shouldn't have his scholarship pulled simply because they recruited two 5* quarterbacks in the two classes behind him.
I guess we shouldn't recruit out of state players either.
By being on scholarship you are promising that at some point you will be a contributor though. Would be nice if some prominant boosters set up funds so the kids would still have school paid for.
if you can make cuts in middle school...you can make cuts in college
Ummm, folks you do know we are unable to over sign right? the Big Ten is unable to over sign.
I wouldn't care one bit. I care about wins and championships. If Coach Meyer only wants to bring in the BEST of the BEST, I am on board with that.
For the record I have never complained about over signing. If other schools are doing it and it's legal then the question should be why aren't we already doing it?
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Are you serious?
Are you sure? Your initial post doesnt read like it. "if we started over signing..."
No. Im not sure.
Well, it is a moot topic since we can't oversign, so why even start the thread?
Its the off season on a message board with what seems to be a hot topic.
It is a hot topic if you are talking about the crap Bama and LSU do.
And this thread is see how our fans would feel about us doing it. Our fans are always quick to call it cheating, but its obviously not. In fact I think most are just butthurt that we can't do it which is why they always bring it up.
Who cuts middle school football players? The field is 120 yds by 53 yds. Not enough room?
Along with academics, players who do not buy into the strength and conditioning program should be cut if they don't cut themselves. However, the standards should be judged on effort, not on measurements such as timed speed or weight lifted.
I would imagine the targets for attrition will be questioning their resolve midway through Mickey's winter program. 3 or 4 transfers sounds about right. Isn't that about what we need? Since it's the third day, there may be some who are questioning it already.
