Okay, time to clip some low-hanging fruit ...
Yep. I am. For a few reasons.
1. As has been mentioned often, it is at least a partial reflection of the staff's faith in what they already have. And if Braxton were to leave after this season (it's Guiton's last season, as well), could Watson as a true freshman beat out Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett? Unlikely.
2. If there are no other quarterbacks the staff sees fit to chase, do we really want them spending valuable time on said chase?
3. In Urb I Trust. He either really thinks he can flip Deshaun or there is someone on the horizon the staff is eyeing.
We have no problem with them chasing a select number of RBs with the possibility that they don't land a true ball carrier this year. I guess it's different with QB's because the stable doesn't seem as full.
In the end, I feel similarly. There are a lot of good prospects but if Urban and Tom H feel that Miller (for another year), Jones, and Barrett are more than enough (mind you they have already scouted out their 2015 QBs pretty well) then it would be stupid of me to feel otherwise.
I think the Harris kid will get an offer this summer if Watson is still in the same place he is at currently. We could also take one of the less rated Ohio Kids that has some potential to add depth later in the process. But if Watson is the man I think you go with him as long as you can.
Hail Hail to MeatChicken the Cesspool of the World!
I believe in the staff which means I believe in JT Barrett. If Watson wants in, awesome. If he doesn't, fine. Tell him 'it's you or no one.' Not many programs in the country can afford that approach, but we can. With Brax likely to come back and JT and Cardale in the wings I say swing for the fences.
Jo nappot kivanok! I didn't know that there was anybody on the board who also spoke Hungarian. "Jo reggelt" means good morning for those who are confused.
Fine with it. JT should redshirt which basically makes him a member of this class anyways. Had Cardale not shown improvements I Would have been more worried about the qb situation.
Sarah sorry about the Herpes.
I'm ok with it. If we don't get Watson it gives us a great chance to get an elite QB in the next class. It's tough nowadays to land elite QBs when they see other elite QBs already on the depth chart.
I think they are OK at quarterback either way. Watson is a great prospect, no doubt. Chances of flipping him aren't all that high.
Look at it:
2013 Miller jr Guiton sr, Jones RS fr, Barrett likely redshirt
2014 Miller sr Jones soph, Barrett RS fr
2015 Jones jr, Barrett soph
2016 Jones sr, Barrett jr
2017 Barrett sr
I'm not necessarily saying that Jones and Barrett would hold Watson off from starting in 2015. I have no idea how it would play out. Just noting I think they are in decent shape at that position, even if the depth is not all that great. They probably need one in 2014, whether it is Watson or somebody else.

I am fine with all the eggs in the Watson basket....for now
I think this staff has proven they can be trusted to bring top talent to Columbus. They will not give up on getting the top signal caller in Watson unless they know they don't have a shot. I love this strategy and I truly think they do have a shot.
First off, he hasn't seen Ohio State yet. What happens if he visits and likes what he sees better than at Clemson? That certainly could happen, but I do think they need to get him to campus soon.
Second, he loves Clemson right now and a main reason is because he believes he fits Chad Morris's system well. Chad Morris was a top HC candidate last year and will be again this next year. Tom Herman could be gone at OSU after this year, too, but let's be honest in that the system will not change as long as Urban Meyer is HC. OSU fans need to hope Morris leaves, as this make a better shot for Watson to be a Buckeye.
Final thoughts here are that once the staff gets a read on how Watson feels, they will move on to the next target they want. That probably won't happen until after a visit occurs, so keep an eye on that. As I said, this staff should have earned your trust last year, so just kick back and watch this unfold. Meyer will not let OSU falter at the QB position and I think either way they get a solid QB in the 2014 class.
This is an excellent point.
I would try to get another. I know they want Watson to know he is "their" guy but one more wouldnt hurt
As Dan said, that's a really good point. Speaking of OSU and Clemson going head-to-head for a QB recruit, I know for a fact that Tajh Boyd would have been a Buckeye if OSU hadn't landed Terrelle Pryor in the previous class.
Ok, I guess I am ok with "all the eggs in one basket" because I trust Meyer. That didn't work very well with Tressel but Meyer recruits so much different. I love Barker from a leadership standpoint and think he would be great for bringing other kids on board but again, I have to trust the staff. My question is, most of us on here agree that waiting on Watson and possibly not getting him, what position do we take with Watson's spot? An extra OL, playmaker? Side note, can't wait to see what Harris does over the summer at camps, he could be the only other offer if Watson doesn't switch
I miss my Kate Upton Picture
You just cannot bank on Barrett or Cardale being the real deal as neither are proven or have shown they are proven. What happens if Braxton leaves after next season? You are left with two unproven players in Cardale and JT, and having only two quarterbacks in a system where the QB runs and gets hit often is a dangerous game.
Just playing Devil's Advocate. I think at least one of Barrett or Jones will be very good at OSU, but there is no question they need at least one body in the class of 2014, at the very least for depth. I am fine with putting all the eggs in the Watson basket and if it doesn't work out, getting a solid back-up option to come to Columbus, redshirt next year, and provide depth moving forward.
I'm all for Watson too. Mainly due to the fact he must be telling Urban something. Urban is smart and I can't believe he wouldn't offer anyone else if Watson told Urban, "coach stop! I'm going to Clemson and that's it. Leave me alone."
With that said, I agree with Alex. We need another QB. I'm thinking the staff will have a good indicator during the season if Braxton will be on the NFL draft radar. If Watson takes too long then we may offer a 3 star level kid (similar to that of Guiton) as a plug in.
This would make quarterback recruiting the following year much easier. Urban may also know that he can flip some guys.
Watson has some of the most impressive HS highlights I have ever watched. This kid in Columbus with MFing Urban Meyer would be unstoppable.
The young man is a talent you just do not see. The fact that his skill set is perfect for our offensive scheme and we have a chance at him... I say show him he is the priority at the QB position and let it work it's self out. If it's meant to be great, if not... There are other options out there, just not of his elite skills and compatibility with what we are doing here.
It will be hard for him to say no when he sees Braxton Miller ball out this fall.
This season is going to be sick.... CAN'T WAIT!!!
This video was made to use for times when typing "can't wait" just doesn't express how excited you really are for whatever it is you're talking about
You ain't ball'n if your block O isn't fitted.
I am on board entirely at this time with this approach. I have faith in the Staff; I have the utmost faith in JT. The jury is still out for me with Jones though. As we get into mid to late summer I think it will be time to re-evaluate the situation as I feel definitely we need a QB in this class for depth. I do not believe Braxton bolts after this year but with one walking out the door (Guiton) one needs to be coming in. I really like Harris and believe not only is he a sleeper but he is not that far behind Watson. I just hope we can keep his interest and make a decision before it is too late for us with him should Watson not decide to join us. I am confident that the Staff has a pulse on this situation and will offer Harris when the time is right.
